A Grandmother-Granddaughter Adventure

Gabby (Laila Lockhart Kraner) is about to head off to Cat Fransico with her Granny (Grammy award winner Gloria Estefan), with her dollhouse in tow. But their plans take an unexpected turn when the dollhouse gets separated and is stolen by the eccentric cat lady, Vera (Kristen Wiig).

Gabby, with the help of her friends, is on a quest to retrieve the dollhouse as she travels to the real world and reunites the Gabby Cats.

Behind the Scenes with the Creators

In a statement, DreamWorks Animation President Maggie Cohn said that this year was a perfect time to bring Gabby and her friends to the big screen, following 11 seasons.

“Gabby’s Dollhouse is filled with endless creativity and imagination, playing out in a deeply imagined world,” Cohn said. “Combine this with a director with a vision and a passionate fanbase wanting more from the franchise, and we had a great start for our movie.”

From Dollhouse to Big Screen

For the film’s director, Ryan Crego, putting the movie together was already something he was passionate about, thanks to having three kids.

“Living in a house of Gabby fans—I have three small kids who are obsessed—it was super important to me was super important to me to retain the charm, character, and copious amounts of glitter that have made Gabby’s such a success,” he said. “All while striving to give the audience (and parents) a heightened, interactive experience, unlike anything that we have seen in the modern-day movie-going era. We pushed for a much bigger journey, full of surprises and a heartfelt character arc that would only be possible given the length and structure of a feature-length film.”

Crego admits it’s a big responsibility to take a beloved show to the big screen. “There is so much that is great about Gabby’s Dollhouse, you just do not want to break it. Make no mistake, this is not a TV special; this is Gabby and the Gabby Cats on their biggest big screen adventure yet!”

Crego adds that the movie will also remind parents of the importance of play. “As adults, we often lose touch with that sense of play. This movie is about rediscovering it and holding on to it. It is a message not just for kids, but for their parents and grandparents too.”

Gabby’s Dollhouse: The Movie opens in Philippine cinemas on September 24, inviting kids (and kids at heart) to rediscover the magic of play, friendship, and family—one glittery adventure at a time.
