Guinness Book of World Records Recognizes “Baby Shark” as the First Video with 10 Billion Views on YouTube
The beloved children’s song uploaded on Pinkfong in 2016 is the most-viewed children’s music video on YouTube.
It sprung different versions, has been performed many times, and it’s finally getting recognized. The Guinness Book of World Record on Wednesday, January 19 announced that the song “Baby Shark” has set a world record for the most-viewed children’s song on YouTube with 10 billion views.
The catchy song was first uploaded on Pinkfong in 2016. The song was performed by Hope Segoine who was 10 years old at the time of the recording. It peaked at number 32 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No.38 on the Global 200.
“The song ‘Baby Shark’ most likely originated as a campfire song, dating back to at least the 20th century,” Guinness said in a statement.
The song has been used in several children’s shows wherein one imitates the jaw and shapes of the baby, daddy, mommy, grandpa, and grandma shark. In the Pinkfong version, the sharks go on hunting and run away.

“Baby Shark’s” record joins the like of other videos such as Luis Fonsi’s “Despacito”, which is the most liked video as of January 2022, and Psy’s “Gangnam Style” which was one of the first videos to receive one billion views on YouTube.
” ‘Baby Shark’ has united children worldwide in their love for the song and equally united parents in their hate for it. With over two times more likes than dislikes on its YouTube video, and a new Guinness World Records title to its name, it seems the kids are winning,” Guinness noted.
In a statement, Pinkfong thanked everyone for the milestone.
“Today we mark history with our special milestone! ‘Baby Shark Dance’ became the first video in history to hit 𝟭𝟬 𝗕𝗜𝗟𝗟𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗩𝗜𝗘𝗪𝗦 on YouTube!. Join us to celebrate and share your Baby Shark Dance moments with us! Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo.”
