Don’t we want to help our kids collect candy? Here are some practical Halloween costume ideas for parents can use for 2024.

As we scour over the internet looking for cool Halloween costume ideas for parents, we’ve probably realized: Halloween isn’t just for kids; it’s also for the kids at heart! With places hanging their spooky skeletons and cobwebs, we’ll want to join in the fun. But how do we do that when we feel that investing in a Halloween costume isn’t worth it or the designs aren’t our thing? We don’t just want to put on a pumpkin or witch hat, either! A part of us is just feeling awfully spooktacular this year!

So for those who want to be a little “extra” this Halloween or indulge their inner child, here are some practical Halloween costume ideas for parents:

1. Addams Family’s Morticia

A slimming black dress with iconic fluted sleeves, Morticia has become an icon of romantic goth and a Halloween icon. The best part is, it’s a reason to break out the black maxi dress we’ve been trying to style. The technique here is layering; if the black dress is sleeveless, wear a black blouse under it. If there are lumps because of the layering, use a thick black waist belt or corset to cover it up.

2. Beetlejuice

While Beetlejuice has his signature black and white striped suit, he also has the classy burgundy red suit. The best part is, it’s a suit which we can use for various social affairs! What some parents even do is dig through online thrift shops, buy separate pieces, and look out for key fabrics like corduroy, polyester wool blend, or linen to make the most out of the suit. Imagine channeling your inner Beetlejuice in a classy way!

3. Orphan’s Esther

Let’s be honest: all of us want to channel our inner serial killer especially after a long, stressful season at work. So why not release that rage through a Halloween costume? Orphan’s Esther fits the aesthetic; the difficult part may be the styling. Her iconic child-like pigtails, the ribbon choker, and velvet or ribbon bracelets will immediately turn any dress into an Orphan look. For the dresses, checkered ones from either Zara or H&M will do. Then just wear white knee-high socks and black Mary Janes to top it off!

4. Agatha Harkness from Agatha All Along

With Marvel Studio airing Agatha All Along on the airwaves, Agatha Harkness is also a possible costume idea. While the comics depict her in a Victorian dress with a bright purple shawl, her contemporary look involves a navy blue blazer and vest, long skirt, and a white button-up with a gold pendant. Then, tie our hair up into a bun and don a bright purple shawl. Voila, we were Agatha all along!

5. Agents of Kingsman

Everyone loves a dashing British agent with his suave moves to save the day. Since James Bond usually goes with the traditional white or black suit, Kingsman may be more suited for the Halloween theme. A pair of black trousers, a dressy white inner button-up, a black bowtie, and a brightly colored blazer. Taron Eggerton, as Eggsy, wears a bright orange one with black lapels.

6. Guns n’ Roses Slash

For the rocker dads, Guns n’ Roses Slash is an option! A black graphic tee, faded black or grey stressed-out jeans, a wig of thick black curly hair, silver chain necklaces, and shades with the signature black top hat do the trick. Bonus points if dads can play the guitar. Even bigger bonus points if they can play one of Guns n’ Roses most beloved songs.

7. Sandman’s Morpheus

The fun part about Morpheus is that his costume is completely monochrome! Black trousers, a crew-neck t-shirt, and a long trench coat are all we need to get his look. We don’t even have to fix our hair. Just maybe sleep a bit, wake up, rake it and that’s it. Sandman’s Morpheus is the only costume that makes bed hair fashionable!

Where else can we find Halloween costume ideas for parents?

In the Philippines, the cosplay community takes costume-wearing very seriously. Besides wearing it at conventions, they see Halloween as one of the biggest events of the year. Not only do they get to go out dressed up, they get to bring their families along and get candy! The most common one as of late is the Spy x Family costume set: moms go around as Yor, dad is in a green suit like Loid, and there’s a little black dress for their little girl. So, if we’re out of costume ideas, these people would know what to do!

As we collect and hoard sweets, we can all agree that the greatest treat of Halloween is getting to be a kid with our kids. While we’ll look out for the usual, spending Halloween 2024 with our kids in costume is a lot more fun than just driving them around.
