Hannah Waddingham Shows Off Handmade Cardboard Bag by Her Daughter at the 2024 SAG Awards
“My daughter wanted to contribute, so she’s made me a bag,” says Hannah Waddington when asked about the cardboard clutch bag that she brought to the SAG Awards.
As parents, we’ve received our fair share of drawings and handmade creations from our kids. While it’s one thing to display those works of art on your fridge or hang them on walls, it’s another story when you bring them to a big event. And in the 2024 Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards, no less!
That is exactly what British actress and television presenter Hannah Waddingham did.
“My daughter wanted to contribute, so she’s made me a bag,” she said on Netflix’s red carpet pre-show, proudly showcasing the cardboard clutch bag that was decorated with plenty of rainbow colors. It also had the word “epic” written across it.
An “epic” creation
Dressed to the nines in a deep red off-the-shoulder gown from Tony Ward’s Spring 2024 collection, Waddingham traded the usual luxury brand bag for a handmade bag by her 9-year-old daughter Kitty, whom she shares with her ex Gianluca Cugnetto. And to give the clutch the spotlight it deserved, she accessorized her look with a few simple pieces of Norman Silverman jewelry.
In a video uploaded on X, Waddingham shared that Kitty made the prism-shaped clutch using “some spare bit of cardboard in the house,” not knowing what her mother was wearing for the event
“She kind of hazarded a guess and put all the colors, so it’ll go with everything,” Waddingham explained. “You know what she called it? ‘Mommy, it’s like you say. It goes with everything and nothing bag.”
Being a mom is just as important!
Waddingham was foremost known for her role as Rebecca Welton in the comedy series Ted Lasso, which won her the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series in 2021 and the Critics’ Choice Television Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series in 2021 and 2022.
Likewise, she was nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series for the final season of Ted Lasso in this year’s SAG Awards.
“My primary function is being a single mama,” she shared in an interview with PEOPLE. “Mommy guilt is real, but I keep saying to her that we are a team and that I have to do this. I have to strike while the iron is hot. I’m not so conceited that I would think that I will always have this kind of focus. I’ve always said to her, ‘Mommy must take this time while the light shines on me because the light shines on you.'”
When asked about what she thought about the glamorous event, she said, “This is all great, but this [being a mom] is the most important.”
