Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith’s Marriage Status is Complicated
Speaking to Hoda Kotb, actress Jada Pinkett Smith admitted that she and her husband Will Smith have been separated since 2016.
Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith’s relationship has always been admired by many in the entertainment industry. But for the first time, Jada admitted that she and Will, who made headlines last year after getting into a fist fight with Chris Rock at the Oscars, admitted that she and the actor have been separated since 2016.
In an excerpt video interview with Hoda Kotb which was televised on October 11, US time, the actress said that she and the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air star have been living separate lives since 2016. The full interview is scheduled for airing on October 13.
Jada is also set to launch her memoir Worthy on October 17 wherein she shares how she and Will met and the status of their relationship.
Married but separated
During the preview, Jada said that while she and Will are still married, they are no longer romantically together. They even discussed about the possibility of divorce.
When asked why she only spoke about the relationship status, Jada said: “Still trying to figure out between the two of us how to be in partnership. In regards to, how do we present that to people? We hadn’t figured that out.”
Hoda then proceeded to ask what led to the fracture of the marriage. Jada, who hosted the Red Table Talk, explained that there were many reasons for the collapse of the relationship.
Jada added that while she has considered about divorcing Will, they never pushed through with it.
“I made a promise that there will never be a reason for us to get a divorce. We will work through … whatever,” she said.
Signs of trouble?
It seems that there have been clues already to their deteriorating relationship as early as 2020. In an episode of the Red Table Talk in 2020, Jada and Will talked about her supposed affair with Alsina. Around that time, they already hinted they were going through issues.
Jada and Will got married in 1997. They have two children – Willow and Jaden. Will has another son, Trey, from his ex-wife Sheree Zampino.
Among Jada’s films include The Matrix franchise, Nutty Professor, The Madagascar franchise where she voiced Gloria, and Magic Mike XXL.
Jada and Will’s relationship just proves that what you see on pictures and television is not what they seem behind the scenes.
