Jessica Sanchez Returns to America’s Got Talent 20 Years Later

Twenty years after her first try, Jessica Sanchez returned to America’s Got Talent to give it another shot and revealed she’s expecting her first child

Remember Jessica Sanchez? The Filipino-American singer who captured hearts during her stint on American Idol returned to the stage to give it another shot, this time on America’s Got Talent.

This isn’t Jessica’s first time on the show. She passed the semifinals 20 years ago but didn’t make it after that.

What changed after 20 years

Recalling the experience of being eliminated, Jessica admitted it was devastating.

“ It really did help me realize that I want to sing. AGT was the beginning of that fire that sparked inside of me,” she said.

Simon Cowell asked what had happened since her last participation in the show, and she shared that there was a point where she fell out of love with music, always being swayed by what people wanted for her.

“ It may have taken me 20 years, but I know exactly who I am, I know exactly what I want,” she told him.

She also revealed that she has already been married and is pregnant. Simon and the judges congratulated her.

“Let me tell you, this is actually the best thing that can ever happen in your life,” he quipped. Ever, ever, ever…I’m very happy for you. “

Jessica went on to sing her version of “Beautiful Things” by Benson Boone. Howie Madel and Mel B commented that she was pretty good, with Mel B saying she has the “voice of an angel.”

“ I think there’s something very special that happened on the stage with you,” Sofia Vergara said. “ It’s so amazing that we’re on the 20th anniversary, season of AGT, and you’re here again after 20 years.”

Sofia then pressed the Golden Buzzer, which would lead her to compete in the next round of the competition.

The wait was worth it

Backstage, Sofia commented that Jessica deserved the moment. Simon also praised her for her tenacity.

“To succeed, you’ve got to have determination and talent. All those years wanting something and just going for it, it was powerful.”

Jessica skyrocketed to fame when she was crowned the runner-up during the 11th season of American Idol. She has since released her debut album Me, You & the Music. Her song “Tonight” featuring Ne-Yo amassed 14 million views on YouTube.

She has also lent her voice to the song “Over the Universe,” released in 2020 as one of the songs for Miss Universe Philippines.

Jessica Sanchez also performed on the famous American TV drama series, Glee, as Frida Romero.
