Julia Montes To Star in Filipino Adaptation of Japanese show ‘Mother’

Saving Grace is based on Nippon TV’s Japanese drama Mother

ABS-CBN is bringing a new adaptation for 2025! After the success of the adaptation of Doctor Foster titled The Broken Marriage Vow, the content provider announced it has teamed up with Japan’s Nippon TV to bring the Filipino adaptation of Mother. Titled Saving Grace, the adaptation stars Julia Montes and will be helmed by Dreamscape Entertainment.

“We’re very, very happy and excited to announce ABS-CBN Studios’ newest Dreamscape production Saving Grace,” ABS-CBN’s chief operating officer Cory Vidanes announced. “This is the Philippine adaptation of Mother that is created and produced by Nippon TV. This is our very first adaptation of a Nippon TV series and we are very grateful to Nippon TV for entrusting us with the rights for the Filipino version.”

“It’s a beautiful story that really centers around the importance of family and motherhood and promises to be a very emotionally engaging and heartwarming series that will deeply resonate with the Filipino audience and the non-Filipino audiences worldwide.”

Yuki Akehi and Sally Yamamoto, Content Business, Nippon TV said they are looking forward to the Filipino adaptation.

“As we celebrate our landmark tenth international deal for ‘Mother,’ we are delighted to be announcing this adaptation with ABS-CBN. ‘Mother’ is truly a beautiful story and we are confident that the Filipino audience is going to love it.”

What is Mother about?

With the announcement, Julia Montes became the 11th actress to take on the role. Other cast members will be announced soon. A date for airing has yet to be announced.

Mother tells the story of a struggling teacher who impulsively abducts a student abused by her mother. Things become complicated when the search for the student becomes a national concern.

Mother first aired in 2010 in Japan starring Yasuko Matsuyuki. Its latest adaptation was from Mongolia, which aired last January 2024.

The series will mark Julia’s return to television after her brief appearance in Ang Probinsyano from 2021-2022.
