Katarina Rodriguez Pens Her Birth Experience with Daughter Clara
On Instagram, Katarina Rodriguez documented her water birth experience with her second child Clara, who was born last January 29.
Almost two months since she welcomed her daughter, Clara, Katarina Rodriguez took to Instagram to share her unique water birth experience. In a two-part post, the Miss World Philippines 2018 titleholder began by saying she wasn’t initially supposed to share Clara’s birth story but so many were asking about it.
“Yes, I did do a water birth again with Clara. However this time it was in a hospital setting,” she wrote.
Recalling what happened on January 29, Katarina said that she was out with friends and her husband Nino Barbers when she started to feel the contractions. “At this point, I was pregnant 41 weeks and 2 days. I had anxiety through the roof the entire month and really just wanted to get her out (naturally as much as possible). I refused to be induced since I was having on-and-off contractions for a few days already. But I also thought nothing of the contraction.”
Around 8:30 pm, she started to have another contraction while doing an exercise. Katarina recalled the look on Nino’s face and immediately got everything ready for the hospital.
“By 8:50 pm, we were in the car on the way to the hospital and all I could think was how in the hell was I supposed to sit down while having contractions. So I tried to side-lie and breathe through the ride.”
She was then wheeled inside the hospital and asked to fill up some forms. But the contractions kept going and she told her nurse she might pop then and there. She was immediately taken to the birth suite.
Getting ready for Clara’s arrival
Katarina then wrote that she was waiting for the doctor alongside her doula. She wanted to go inside the pool already but it was still hot.
“I called my OB and told him I really, really wanted to push and that I was finally feeling the painful contractions. He was minutes away,” she narrated.
“After the call, I was relieved to be able to go into the pool and the resident doctor did the IE. She then told me I was fully dilated! I couldn’t believe it, that I asked her if she was being serious,” she laughed.
Around 9:55 pm, Clara came out but had cord coil around her neck. Katarina wrote, “God was looking out for us every second of the way. My OB was great and knew how to handle the situation. He made it right on time, and giving birth in the water also made the coil less dangerous. I felt her head come out with much ease first, then her body, then her legs. This girl was a long baby and was born at 7 lbs. 12 oz. She led the way the entire labor and was good to me. Every prayer I had was answered. I couldn’t be more grateful.”
Moreover, Katarina was thankful to have her doula by her side because had they been late to move, something might have happened to Clara.
“I’ll never forget the dark place my mind went to during that last month, and I’ll definitely never forget how faith pulled me out of it. If my son taught me to be softer, my daughter showed me how to be brave again. Now I’m living the dream with my baby girl in my arms.”
