Kids Are Now In Business: Welcome To The Poveda BizKids Expo!
It’s never too early to start teaching kids how to sustain and grow their own money! Check out what the kids at the Poveda BizKids Expo have in store!
Considering everything’s online, kids are probably witnessing firsthand how transactions go on the customer side. But as good Uncle Scrooge McDuck says, “Money needs to keep flowing.” Initiated by the Poveda alumni batch 2001, this generation’s Povedans will experience the other side of the market: by creating and sustaining a business. With over 45 booths run by students in Grades 2 to 9, the Poveda BizKids Expo will be held in the Poveda School gym, opening itself to the public on January 10 and 11, from 10 AM to 5 PM.
Closely coordinating with the school’s principal office and administrative office, the alumni of Poveda Batch 2001 held 2-day workshops and closely coached the kids to help them grow their businesses.
What to expect at the BizKids Expo
It’ll be a heartwarming and inspiring sight, seeing all the kids try to build their own way into the world. After all, money doesn’t grow on trees and they’ll have to eventually realize that some things taste or feel better because they’ve worked hard for it.
“The Povedans participating in the expo will learn so much from the hands-on experience of running a small business. It’s an immersive experience that will teach them valuable skills in entrepreneurship from product development, packaging, and financial literacy, enhancing their practical knowledge and preparing them for future entrepreneurial endeavors,” shares Rona V. Garcia, member of the Homecoming Core Group.
For business-owning parents, it’ll be a bit of a nostalgic sight. Watching the kids passionately explain their business, run the counters, and inspect the products will be a trip down memory lane as they remember how they were always looking for that one person who would trust their product. Now, they find themselves in that position — will they invest or not?
Poveda BizKids: Mentorship Across and Down Generations
“We wanted to involve the kids and Povedans, in particular, to allow alumni to reconnect with their alma mater and to strengthen Poveda community ties. This initiative not only celebrates the school’s traditions but also fosters a sense of belonging and mentorship between the past and present students, enriching the overall homecoming experience,” adds Garcia.
Kids have big dreams and imaginations which is what mentors and parents are there for — to guide them in deciding what’s feasible, possible, and plausible. Especially in business, it’s not easy to just make a mistake and patch it up. Some of these take time and a little bit of negotiation to make sure things run smoothly. So if our kids are looking to start a business, maybe they can check out the Poveda BizKids Expo and learn from the other kids of what it’s like to build something out of their passion.
