A Bluey Animated Movie Is In The Works!
The Emmy and BAFTA winner children’s show will turn into a movie in 2027 via a joint agreement between Disney and BBC Studios
The most popular blue dog and her family are coming to cinemas soon. BBC Studios and Disney announced they are developing a Bluey movie that will land in cinemas in 2027. Disney has acquired the rights to distribute the film and stream it via Disney+.
Bluey creator Joe Brumm will write and direct the film. It will still have the same charm and humor that made appealing to today’s generation of kids and became a success worldwide as it follows Bluey and her family in new adventures.
Exciting opportunity
“I really enjoyed the experience of working with a longer format on ‘The Sign’ in Series 3, so going even further with a feature film feels like a natural extension of that,” Brumm said. “I’ve always thought ’Bluey’ deserved a theatrical movie. I want this to be an experiential event for the whole family to enjoy together. I’m excited to continue to partner with Cecilia Persson, Tom Fussell and the team at BBC Studios, and Dana Walden, Alan Bergman and Disney to bring this new ’Bluey’ story to the big screen.”
Disney Entertainment co-chairmen Alan Bergman and Dana Walden, BBC Studios CEO Tom Fussell, and Ludo Studio’s Daley Pearson and Charlie Aspinwall, have also expressed their excitement over the film.
Melanie Zanetti and David McCormack, who voiced Bluey’s parents Chilli and Bandit, have been confirmed to voice the characters. Joff Bush, who did the show’s music, will also be on board to create the soundtrack.
A worldwide success
Since it was first launched in 2018 in Australia, Bluey has gained a lot of attention among families. Celebrities like Natalie Portman, Eva Mendes, and Lin-Manuel Miranda have even made cameos in some of its episodes.
Bluey tells the story of a “loveable, inexhaustible, Blue Heeler dog, who lives with her Mum, Dad, and her little sister, Bingo. In the show, Bluey uses her limitless energy to play games that unfold in unpredictable and hilarious ways, bringing her family and the whole neighborhood into her world of fun.”
It has been one of the most streamed children’s shows in the US and has won several awards including the 2019 International Emmy Kids Award and 2022 British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA) for the Children & Young People Award in the International Category.
The show is broadcast on TV5 in the Philippines and streamed on Disney+.
