Lilo & Stitch Live Action is Making Waves!

Lilo & Stitch is being remade into a live-action movie and this is what we know!

When Lilo asked for the “nicest” angel they had, she didn’t expect it would be the ever-destructive and highly intelligent lifeform, alien Experiment 626, affectionately known as Stitch. Thus, the adorable, quirky pair of Lilo and Stitch was born! Originally an animated movie series with its own spin-offs, Disney is releasing a remade Lilo & Stitch as a live-action movie. Although the trailer for the upcoming movie was released last November 26, 2024, it’s already making waves in the animator community and for millennial parents who grew up with the show.

What we love about Lilo & Stitch

Lilo & Stitch was one of the few non-princess movies Disney released. Focusing on the life of two sisters, Nani and Lilo, the movie takes a different spin on family relationships. Nani was the older sister who had to grow up to support Lilo, fighting hard to keep a stable job to keep the family together. After all, Nani being the mother figure wasn’t welcome, especially with Lilo getting into trouble often in her hula class with the mean girl Myrtle.

Stitch was by no means a normal pet either. As an experiment with enhanced capabilities and programmed only to destroy, he proved that things could be learned. He eventually learned what it meant to be part of an ohana – a theme that eventually spanned toward the other 625 experiments. Instead of deactivating them, he found them all a place in the world. That kind of guidance is something we all wish we could do.

Lilo & Stitch Joining Other Titles in Live-Action Remakes

Lilo & Stitch isn’t the only one joining the ranks of the Disney movies that have been remade into live-action films. Mufasa, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Little Mermaid, and many more – Disney has been bringing back many of the old childhood favorites. In a way, remaking these movies into live-action films transforms and reappropriates them for a younger audience while still appealing to the parents – the original audience of the film.
