Lionel Richie’s Daughter, Sofia, is Pregnant!
American soul singer Lionel Richie is going to be a grandfather again!
Back in the 80s, American soul singer Lionel Richie made headlines with his songs like Endless Love and All Night Long. This time, Lionel’s daughter, social media personality and model Sofia Richie, makes headlines as she reveals her pregnancy. She and her husband, Elliot Grainge, also dropped the gender of their baby: they’re expecting a girl!
How Sofia Richie found out about her pregnancy
Based on Sofia’s interview with Vogue, she found out “very early.” While she was four weeks pregnant, Sofia was heading to Milan for Fashion Week, as she planned to attend the Prada Show.
By then, something didn’t feel right. “I was doing a really quick 24-hour turnaround, and I felt terrible but didn’t think much of it. I thought it was jet lag,” she admitted during the interview.
But she decided to “play safe” before attending Ed Sheeran’s Mathematics concert. “I kind of knew it was going to be a boozy night, and I was a few days late on my period, and I wanted to be generally safe, so I took a test,” she recalled. “Elliot was already used to me taking tests randomly.”
The couple have been casually trying since their wedding in April 2023 and when the at-home tests started showing a different result, Sofia shared how she asked Elliot to buy “three of the best pregnancy tests he could find.” And during the testing, she shares how “sweet” he was through it all.
She shared. “He always wants to protect my emotions and expectations. So, he kind of sat me down and said, ‘If these are negative, don’t be upset. Our moment will come.’”
But the moment came for them as all three tests became positive. Filled with excitement, they held back the news until the 8th week to tell their family and friends. And in the most glamorous way possible, Sofia shared the news through an Hermès box that contained the three pregnancy tests, masking it as a “gift from Milan fashion week.”
“Everyone was like ‘Ooooh Hermes!’ But then they opened it and it had all three of the pregnancy tests [in it]. That’s how we told all of our parents. Watching their reaction go from like, ‘I’m about to get an expensive present’ to like ‘I’m about to get a grandchild’ was really sweet,” she revealed during the interview.
On keeping her pregnancy quiet until she was sure
Like many moms-to-be before her, Sofia admitted that there is a bit of fear that comes with being pregnant. “You want to protect that space,” she explained to Vogue. “I didn’t realize there are so many milestones you have to hit and so many tests you have to take. For me, it was really important to protect our mental health and our space as a couple.”
But this mom-to-be is embracing her pregnancy journey with style! Instead of buying a maternity wardrobe, she intends to go “one size up” and style trench coats to conceal the bump. We’re looking forward to how Sofia will make fashion statements with trench coats. But most of all, we know her daughter—whom she affectionately calls her “Gemini Baby”—will be just as trendy as her momma. Congratulations, Sofia!
