Megan Young And Mikael Daez Get Real On Their Pregnancy Journey

The couple, who are expecting their first child, answered questions about being parents-to-be in their podcast, Behind Relationship Goals

Miss World 2013 Megan Young and actor Mikael Daez have been busy since announcing they were expecting their first child last December. After confirming they were expecting a boy and goofing about possible baby names, the couple sat down to record one of the many podcasts they’ll be doing as they await their son’s arrival.

The two answered questions about the pregnancy, their initial worries, and enjoying the journey, and clarified a previous statement Megan made.

DINKS no more

At the start of the podcast, Megan and Mikael clarified the misconception of the statement they made years back about the possibility of not having a baby. They even joked that they were kicked out of the dual-income, no-kids group abbreviated as DINKS.

“Before, we would always say we’re okay with not having kids as of the moment but also okay with having kids,” Megan explained. “ I think a lot of people thought na ayaw natin magka-anak. And that’s not necessarily true because we did have an idea that we were open to the idea of having kids.”

The beauty queen and host added that she and Mikael were just “go with the flow ang peg.”

Mikael, on the other hand, pointed out social media and media impact on particular statements they made.

“True to form that we had our long podcasts and they focused literally on one line,” he shared, referring to the comments on social media that he and Megan do not want to have a child.

Although it was unnecessary, they decided to explain the story of their pregnancy journey.

Megan Young On Her Previous Pregnancy Statement

So much has been said and reported on Megan’s past statement about pregnancy. The actress addressed the issue and admitted that before she got pregnant, she was worried about childbirth and its health complications.

“Any unknown is going to be scary for you and at that time, being someone who is career-focused, focused on myself and my own growth, I wasn’t really thinking other than that,” she said.

“I just wanted to work, feel good, and look good,” she added.

She admitted to having fears and had no friends to talk about the possibility of pregnancy, focusing only on the stories she knew back then.

Mikael expounded his wife’s statements, saying that Megan tends to overreact when she’s afraid and scared, to the point she thinks of the worst situations.

“Bonezy (Megan’s nickname in the game world)  just has that kind of personality and that’s the primary driver of apprehension for her when it comes to the pregnancy, “ he said.

As for Mikael, he said he was open to becoming a dad. “ I’m very open to the fact that we have been DINKs for a very long time… I guess you can consider me very free-spirited and spontaneous.”

“The complete opposite of me,” Megan chimed in.

Feelings and Fears as Parents-To-Be

As parents-to-be, it’s natural to have mixed emotions, which the two have grappled with. Mikael asked his wife what feelings she was experiencing at that moment.

“I’m actually very excited at the same time very relaxed at this point,” Megan said. “I actually found a way for me to block off the noise.”

The noise she’s referring to is the comments on social media and other external forces. “Parang [you can] take it in as an insight but don’t let it affect you because you know what’s best for you and your baby.”

She admits being anxious about preparing for the baby’s arrival including the nursery but is not worried about it now.

When Mikael threw the question about them being ready to be parents, Megan answered by sharing advice she got that no one will be ready. “ There’s always the unknown of who your child is going to be and the child you are going to have.”

“ Of course, you shape them with discipline and all. But their personality is something that’s just there like you’re shaped by the personality of the world that’s around you. But you can never really dictate yung magiging path mo as a parent.”

Before it was just the pregnancy, now she’s thinking about what ahead like how they’ll raise their child and the activities they’ll do. “Parenting style is something that I think about on a daily basis, especially when I scroll through TikTok and Instagram for tips here and there. “

“So when the baby comes, I think we will have a better idea of how we want to do it. Basta groundwork tayo na masusundan and we will go from there.”

Mikael, meanwhile said that he’s unafraid and knows there are unknowns they have to face.

“I don’t know what’s going to happen. We will try our best but we don’t know and I’m okay with that,” he told his wife. “You make the most out of the moments you have presently. And for everything that will happen, you’ll just do your best and be flexible.”

Looking Forward To As Parents

As they come to the end of the discussion, Mikael asks Megan what’s she excited and afraid of as they await their child’s arrival.

“I’m excited I can finally hold the baby in my arms,” Megan answered, sharing that she has watched several birth videos, including Iya Villania, who recently welcomed baby number five.

“ The one thing that I am scared of the most, well I have two and they are extreme. The first is when you change the diaper and when it flies out to you. And the second one is I just don’t anything bad to happen to the baby and me of course during childbirth and while they are sleeping.”

She continued, saying there are several cases she read about incidents when children are asleep, hence the baby monitors now used by parents to check on their children.

For Mikael, he wonders if he’s allowed to be in the delivery room. Assuming he’s allowed, he wonders if he’s ready to see what’s inside the delivery room.

“I feel that I have not thought that part through and I’ll be caught by surprise,” he jests.

As for what he’s looking forward to, Mikael said: “I’m just taking it day by day…it’s all new. I never had my wife or my partner have such a round pregnant belly ever. I never had her feel all these feelings and never had someone poking me on the side.”

“All these are new memories that I’ll keep. And I’m just going through it and enjoying and taking it all in.”
