Minions the Rise of Gru: The Importance of Trust and Friendship
A young Gru and the Minions go through the ups and downs of friendship and the importance of loyalty and trust.
We’ve seen the Despicable Me movies featuring Gru and the Minions. And while it tells the story of a villain and his sidekicks, just how did their relationship start? This was answered in Minions The Rise of Gru.
The film takes us back to the 70s when a young Gru dreamed of becoming a super villain. He looked up to a group of notorious villains known as the Vicious 6. Taunted for his ambition, Gru and the Minions, led by Stuart, Bob, Kevin, and Otto try to prove themselves with some help along the way and the usual humor to go with it.
The importance of friendship
For Gru, the Minions are his friends. He has always been the outcast with a mother who treats him differently and sometimes doesn’t care what he goes through. The Minions have served not as only allies but also companions when he needs them the most.
Their friendship was tested when another minion, Otto, bungled their mission. Gru was kidnapped by Wild Knuckles and taken to San Francisco with the Minions off to the rescue.
In the course of challenges they’ve been through, friendship was important for Gru. Especially when the four Minions helped rescue him alongside Wild Knuckles from the clutches of the Vicious 6.
Loyalty and Trust
We all know the Minions are loyal to Gru. And they’ve proven that time and time again. In Minions the Rise of Gru, Kevin, Bob, and Stuart consistently look out for Gru and even came to his rescue. They took martial arts lessons as well—to prepare themselves for their confrontation with the Vicious 6.
When it comes to trust, Otto definitely showed that he was not just a trustworthy Minion but also loyal to Gru when they saw each other. Upon giving back the zodiac necklace, Gru knew he can definitely trust Otto.
But perhaps the scene where trust was truly shown was between Knuckles and Gru. Knuckles eventually kidnapped Gru for his own selfish act to get the necklace from the Vicious 6. He finally went to help save Gru’s life and would later serve as a mentor of sorts to him and the Minions.
Worth the laughter
Even with the serious theme of some scenes in Minions The Rise of Gru, you will still laugh at the antics of the Minions. Cute and talking in different languages (gibberish for some), watching the movie with the whole family is worth it.
So if you’re heading back to the cinemas to watch, catch the film and get a good laugh!
