Beauty Basics: A Mom’s Guide to the 5-Minute Makeup Look

When it comes to doing a 5-minute makeup look, you just need to know which features to highlight!

Now that things have returned to normal, we’ve seen a rise in more moms reporting to the office or adjusting to a hybrid setup. And because this means meeting with people in person, applying makeup has been added to their daily routines once again. However, the morning rush of preparing everyone’s baon and making sure the house is in order can get in the way. So, moms are left with just 5 minutes or less to do a makeup look. Here’s a guide to help maximize those minutes! It’s all about playing with the right features and framing the face.

1. Skin

Good skin will always be in, which is why it’s so important to invest in it. If you have good skin, you don’t need to cover it up anymore with foundation or concealer. At most, a tinted moisturizer or sunscreen will do! Like the Happy Skin Second Skin Tinted Moisturizer or the Pixi Beauty H2O Skintint. There are different ways to take care of your skin inside and out. Apart from religiously following a skincare routine, eating vegetables and drinking lots of water help a lot. You can take collagen supplements as well! This helps improve the skin’s health by reducing dryness and wrinkles. It can even increase muscle mass, prevent bone loss, and relieve joint pain.

Lastly, regularly visit a skincare clinic or your preferred dermatologist to get facial treatments. This helps rejuvenate the skin and achieve a healthy glow—something that no makeup can do!

2. Brows

Eyebrows help accentuate the eyes and shape the face. They also play a vital role in communication. Of course, not everyone is born with full or perfectly-manicured brows. So as much as possible, eyebrows should be regularly trimmed, shaped, and filled. There are different products you can use to fill them out such as liquid pens, powders, and gels.

For those blessed with bushy brows, you can simply apply a clear or tinted gel like the Sunnies Face Lifebrow Grooming Gel to give them extra oomph. Meanwhile, those with sparse brows can fill them in with a liquid pen like the Strokes Microblade Pen Perfector where a little goes a long way. Or if you want a mix of pen and powder, the K-Palette Lasting 2Way Eyebrow Liquid and Powder Pen is a cult favorite. It all depends on your preference and how you master your technique. Doing your brows may seem intimidating at first but practice makes perfect!

However, if you want to cut down on more time, you can have your brows done by a permanent makeup artist like Plush Beauty by Inna, who can do Combo Brows, Ombre Brows, or 6D Microblading.

3. Lashes

Curling your lashes and applying mascara is another step to enhance your 5-minute makeup look. The technique in curling is to start from the very base of your lashes, then curl again in the middle, and lastly the tip. This is the same for when you apply your mascara. Two classic drugstore favorites that are waterproof: L’Oreal’s Lash Paradise and Maybelline’s Hypercurl.

Another option to cut down the time is to get a lash lift or lash extensions done! You can check out beauty salons like Lash Wishes and Ayumi.

4. Cheeks

Adding color to your cheeks can brighten up your look. And what’s great about the beauty scene is the array of products available in different forms—from powder to liquid to gel. One of the easiest products to blend on your cheeks seamlessly without needing a mirror is Glossier’s Cloud Paint. Local dupes would be the Issy & Co. Crème Blush or the Scout Beauty Blush Bomb.

5. Lips

Last but not least would be to put some pop to the lips! Again, this depends on your preference whether you like your lippies in matte, satin, or gloss. If you’re looking for extra shine, check out BLK Cosmetics’ Water Blur Tint. It’s so versatile that it can even be used as an eyeshadow or a cheek tint.
