The First Trailer for Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew Drops

Barbie director Greta Gerwig brings C.S. Lewis’ beloved fantasy origin story to life, giving parents and kids a magical first look at Aslan, Narnia, and a star-studded cast

Get ready to introduce a whole new generation to the magical world of Narnia. Netflix has officially released the first teaser trailer for Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew, helmed by Barbie director Greta Gerwig.

Set in Edwardian-era England, The Magician’s Nephew serves as the origin story of C.S. Lewis’ beloved fantasy series. The story follows two young children, Digory and Polly, who stumble upon the Wood Between Worlds—a gateway to different realms. Their journey takes them to the creation of Narnia, bringing them face-to-face with the majestic lion Aslan and the future White Witch (Jadis), two iconic figures who shape the rest of the Chronicles of Narnia books.

The trailer also gives parents and fans a first look at Daniel Craig, who plays Digory’s eccentric uncle, the magician Andrew Ketterley.

Bringing C.S. Lewis’ vision to a new generation

For Gerwig, directing the project is deeply personal—a sentiment many parents who grew up reading the series can relate to. In a press release, the filmmaker shared how reading C.S. Lewis as a child shaped her imagination:

“I was a child when I first read The Magician’s Nephew, and I fell in love with the gorgeously improbable but completely brilliant concept of a cosmic lion singing the world of Narnia to life,” Gerwig recalled.

“I didn’t know that I would grow up to make films, but a universe built out of music is an idea that always lived in my heart. It is the honor of a lifetime to be asked to imagine it into being. Because of C.S. Lewis’s The Chronicles of Narnia, I believed in magic and hidden worlds and adventure. I believed that anywhere could be enchanted and that anyone could be swept up into an epic. That wonder and awe was available to everyone, even ordinary people like me… It transformed me.”

Joining Craig in the star-studded fantasy adaptation are Emma Mackey and Meryl Streep.

Whether you’re planning to revisit the classic books with your kids or experience the magic together on the screen, mark your calendars: Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew is scheduled to hit theaters in the United States on February 12, 2027.
