The PlayBack Is Real: Secondhand Serenade, Boys Like Girls, and The Click Five Jam For A Concert!
Millennials and teens in their emo phase, get ready for one of the biggest punk, rock, and emo concerts of next year as Secondhand Serenade, Boys Like Girls, and The Click Five jam together
Most of us will remember our “emo phase,” switching from boy and/or girl bands into punk rock or emo bands to deal with the angst we had as adolescents. These were the songs of our feelings and now, the tunes are coming in! Familiar names Secondhand Serenade, Boys Like Girls, and The Click Five are coming to the Philippines to hold a concert on May 8, 2025, for the PlayBack Music Festival at the SMX Convention Hall at Pasay!
Adolescent Angst In The Tunes
Let’s be honest, music expresses mixed emotions better than words can.
Most of us will probably remember how scrambled our feelings were as adolescents. We didn’t know how to sort through the envy, shame, anxiety, and cluelessness while piecing together our identities. But one thing was for sure: we didn’t like the happy and energetic pop music anymore. It sounded too loud and possibly, too peppy. As far as we were concerned, there was this angst that made no sense.
So we started digging into other genres. Nu Metal and Rock finally hit our music radars as bands like Secondhand Serenade, Boys Like Girls, Linkin Park, My Chemical Romance, Evanescence, and The Click Five started showing up in our “suggested” list. YouTube, the MTV channel, and the radios played their songs and somehow, the lyrics just clicked. It helped us make sense of our feelings.
Somehow, it seems to be something every teen goes through. Our teens probably even played My Chemical Romance music at some point, with many of us recalling the lyrics of at least the introduction of “Welcome To The Black Parade.” Proms were playing Boys Like Girls’ “Two Is Better Than One” – a song they collaborated with Taylor Swift, “Thunder,” and Secondhand Serenade’s “Fall For You.” The Click Five had been filling the malls with their songs “Catch Your Wave,” “Just The Girl,” and “Jenny.”
Some of us never outgrew those songs
The beauty of punk, emo, and rock music is that there will always there to address feelings that need a cathartic release. With adolescence being such a topsy-turvy stage in life, the songs that Secondhand Serenade, Boys Like Girls, and The Click Five released served perfectly as media to verbalize those feelings.
As of now, the tickets range from PHP4,500 (Silver) to PHP10,000 (Platinum). To order tickets, you can get them here.
