PSA: Roald Dahl’s Matilda The Musical is Coming to Netflix!

Every family’s favorite little genius is back in the new Netflix version of Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical!

On October 13, 2022, Netflix dropped a trailer for their adaptation of Roald Dahl’s book, Matilda, as both a movie and a musical. Every family’s favorite sharp-minded, imaginative, telekinetic little girl returns and is played by Darklands’ and Don’t Leave Home‘s Alisha Weir. Lashana Lynch, who we know as Marie Rambeau from the Marvel Universe, will be playing the caring Ms. Honey. Meanwhile, Emma Thompson, who voiced Mrs. Potts in the 2017 version of Beauty and the Beast, will be playing the terrifying Ms. Trunchbull.

It’s a musical adaptation of the book!

The trailer revealed some mixed reactions with some confusing the movie as a remake of the 1996 Matilda movie starring Mara Wilson as Matilda, Pam Ferris as Ms. Trunchbull, and Embeth Davidtz as Ms. Honey. However, some were quick to point out that the incoming Netflix adaptation of Matilda was more of an “adaptation of the broadway based on the book.” Some netizens, however, deleted their comments already.

Matilda the Musical first came out on January 2009 in the UK in Stratford-Upon-Avon. It also premiered in the Cambridge Theatre on November 24, 2011, where it received a lot of positive reviews.

A Heartwarming and Vivid Movie Adaptation of the Musical

Currently, Netflix has only revealed one premiere date for one country: December 2, 2022, in the United Kingdom (UK). But the trailer revealed many of the songs that will appear in the movie such as We Are Revolting, When I Grow Up, and The Chokey Chant. Find out more and watch the trailer below!
