If a movie night at home for a romantic date is more your thing, here are some romance movie suggestions to make the date romantic this Valentine’s Day 2025.

So Valentine’s Day 2025 is coming but so’s the traffic and the kids! While some couples celebrated Valentine’s Day either late or early last week to avoid the logistic mess, it doesn’t feel romantic enough for some unless it’s on the day itself. So with a bit of take-out and good drinks, all we need now is a fun movie. But don’t worry, we’re keeping these romance movie suggestions family-friendly in case the kids start bouncing off the walls at home!

Romantic Movies To Watch This Valentine’s Day 2025

1. The Proposal (2009)

Granted, it’s an old movie but the slow-burn romance is great for parents who remember all the shenanigans they had to when introducing their potential spouse to their families. Starring Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds, The Proposal is a romantic comedy movie that shows that romance doesn’t always have to start from the man’s attempts. It can start with the woman too!

2. Kimi No Nawa (2016)

While romance isn’t the main genre and it’s an anime, Kimi No Nawa is a movie on connections and how they can transcend time. The movie starts with a girl named Mitsuha Miyamizu who wishes to live in Tokyo. She then starts switching bodies with a boy named Taki Tachibana, a boy who lives in Tokyo. Realizing that they need to find a way to communicate, they do so via messages on paper or the messenger. Unlike other romance movies, this one focuses on the sweet moments that eventually build into a relationship.

3. Ticket to Paradise (2022)

Considering how much chemistry Julia Roberts and George Clooney had in Ocean’s 11 and 12, imagine that in a rom-com movie. Ticket to Paradise may hit home for a lot of parents who are co-parenting, especially when they see their kids now all grown-up taking relationships to the next step. It’s a lot of fun and laughter as the parents find each other and themselves again as they watch how their child pursues a life filled with love.

4. Bridget Jones’s Diary (2001, 2004, 2016)

If you’re looking forward to watching Bridget Jones’ Diary: Mad About A Boy but want a recap, might as well do it for this Valentine’s Day 2025! Bridget Jones’s Diary is a classic for many moms and probably the basis for many of today’s young adult romantic novels. A woman looking for love gets tangled up with two men before finally having a family with the one she loves.

5. Rewind (2023)

For a more local flavor, Rewind with Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera reminds parents to appreciate all the time and love spent. There may be fights, disagreements, and times where we made the wrong choice to sacrifice time with family for success but, we do our earnest to make up for it all. The movie sends a message that there’s no better time than the present to show how much you love your family.

6. When I Met You In Tokyo (2023)

For many OFW couples and parents, romance didn’t start in the Philippines but while they were on the job in another country. When I Met You In Tokyo may be a trip down memory lane for many as it tackles the topic of soulmates and how people learn that they are just “meant for each other.” Plus, it talks about how illness, although sad, makes a couple value their time together.

7. Me Before You (2016)

Emilia Clarke may be known as the Mother of Dragons due to her role in Game of Thrones. But in Me Before You, she’s a young lady named Lou who’s doing everything to make ends meet. She then served as an assistant to a paraplegic who wished to die after an accident had taken “everything” from him. It’s a movie that teaches that love can do a lot of things, including letting go.

8. No Reservations (2007)

Although critics said that No Reservations didn’t have the burst of romance that most do, what we like about this movie is that it tackles parenting, especially from the viewpoint of a talented chef (played by Catherine Zeta-Jones) who becomes the mom to her niece, nine-year-old Zoe, when her sister dies. It’s quite a navigation also when she brings in a new sous-chef, Nick, and eventually begins to work alongside him and fall in love with him.

9. La La Land (2016)

For those who prefer a musical, La La Land may be just your cup of tea. Starring Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling, the two in the movie are creatives and entertainers trying to enter the industry. However, as they go deeper into their relationship, they go through many ups and downs with their dreams becoming the topic of discussion half the time. If there’s a movie that you’re looking for that love can come in all shapes and forms, this is it.

10. Crazy Rich Asians (2018)

What happens when the man you’re in love with happens to be several social classes above? That’s what Crazy Rich Asians talks about. It also talks about the clash of ideals and how Love faces all these, especially in the case of Eleanor and Rachel. On one side, it talks about the sacrifices that Eleanor has made for her family but also shares that even those from the younger generation, even with her differing ideals, are willing to make that sacrifice.

Valentine’s Day isn’t just about passion but also the willingness to be vulnerable, recalling all the hard work both have put into the relationship.
