Sonic the Hedgehog 3 Reveals Keanu Reeves as the Latest Addition to the Cast
Shadow, also known as the polar opposite of Sonic, shows up in the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog 3 with John Wick’s Keanu Reeves as his voice actor!
With Sonic the Hedgehog 3 release date set for December 20, 2024, in the United States, kids (and possibly even parents!) have more reason to be hyped up now for the movie. Why? They just revealed the latest addition to the cast. And it is none other than Keanu Reeves!
The third installment in the franchise’s movie series will also introduce Shadow, who was written as Sonic’s more no-nonsense counterpart. And the John Wick actor will be lending his voice to this new character.
Sonic the Hedgehog: A timeless franchise
As parents, we often remark that studios don’t write cartoons the same way. While Bluey and Cocomelon keep our kids occupied and teach good lessons, some of the newer cartoon’s plot lines are different from the shows of before. There are days when we just want to watch something with a good old-fashioned fistfight. That, coupled with some witty quips, is because our brains are too tired to think.
Sonic the Hedgehog became a beloved cartoon among many because for once, he didn’t rely on super strength or flight. He was fast; his every battle with the franchise’s villain, Dr. Robotnik, focused on how he could use his speed to dominate the fight.
However, his speed didn’t come without consequences. His speed made him cocky which the writers eventually balanced out with other characters like Tails, Knuckles, Metal Sonic—a robotic clone, and Shadow—the character that’s making its debut in the upcoming movie.
Kids are looking forward to the success of the first two movies!
Kids love superhero movies because of how simple the plot usually is. They also usually teach that some things do have a clear line between good and evil. But with kids being more perceptive and complex nowadays, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 may have a more in-depth storyline than just the typical pow-and-wow.
There’s no official trailer release of Sonic Hedgehog 3 from Paramount Pictures as of yet. However, the fans (many whom are probably parents who grew up with the series) are probably anticipating one with a teaser of the franchise’s most iconic rivalries: Shadow (voiced by Keanu Reeves) vs. Sonic (voiced by Ben Schwartz).
