The New Live-Action Lilo & Stitch Official Trailer Warms Hearts!

Disney dropped the official trailer for the new live-action movie of Lilo & Stitch, and it’s warming hearts!

Ohana means family; family means nobody gets left behind or lost — Lilo’s creed for family has been memorized by millennial parents everywhere since its debut as an animated movie in 2002. So when news broke up that Disney was reanimating the adorable blue furball of mischief for a live-action film, everyone was hyped! Teasers have been dropped here and there, with the official trailer of the new Live-Action Lilo & Stitch movie finally making its debut a couple of hours ago.

But the question is: Are they retaining the original material or adding new stuff? Here’s what we know based on the new live-action Lilo and Stitch trailer!

Is there anything new in the live-action Lilo & Stitch film?

Based on the live-action Lilo & Stitch film’s trailer, some scenes don’t seem to have a counterpart in the animated video. One includes the car ride home, where Stitch pulls out a CD and hurls it like a discus into the car behind them. Another is a scene where Lilo tries to orient Stitch on the idea of “family,” and she says what may be a new signature line from the theme, “A family doesn’t have to be perfect.” If we’re understanding that scene right then, we might finally see what happened to Lilo’s parents since we only saw a photo of them in the original animated movie!

Lilo also seems a little less quirky and less impulsive, but it’s hard to say with only a few scenes. In the animated movie and series, the titular character has eccentric tastes and beliefs, including feeding Pudge the fish a peanut butter sandwich under the assumption that he controls the weather. We also don’t see how Lilo interacts with the resident mean girl, Myrtle. The scene when Lilo attacks Myrtle after an unwarranted comment about her mother while Stitch documents proof of the altercation has become a very relatable meme for many netizens, especially when they remember their best friends or their beloved partners.

Most parents will remember they have that kind of friendship with one of their friends: whether they’re the one preferring diplomacy or the other who will gladly and willfully choose violence.

Either way, we’re excited as the added scenes in the live-action film seem to add more context to the original Lilo & Stitch movie. Plus, they seem to have used the original soundtrack, which made the original Lilo & Stitch movie so unique to begin with!

When’s the live-action Lilo & Stitch film releasing?

According to the trailer, the live-action Lilo & Stitch film is planned for release on May 23, 2025. However, there are no specifics on whether that’s only in the United States or if the release is international. But whatever it is, the Lilo & Stitch franchise has become the millennial’s version of E.T. It’s a unique and eccentric relationship between a human and an alien that eventually turns into one of friendship. In fact, Lilo & Stitch became so popular that there have been multiple spin-offs. One such spin-off is based on the aftermath of Lilo & Stitch 2, wherein Stitch finds a home for all the other 625 experiments.
