Karate Kid: Legends Drops Its First Trailer!

Get ready for the next battle as Karate Kid: Legends brings two martial arts legends to train the latest generation!

Many of us grew up on Karate Kid with the famous Mr. Miyagi, played by the late Pat Morita. Yet, the legacy still lives on. A movie and a Netflix series later, the franchise returns with Karate Kid: Legends but marries the two universes. Ralph Macchio reprises his role as Mr. Miyagi’s student now sensei, Daniel Larusso, and Jackie Chan returns as shifu Mr. Han. Their newest student is Li Fong, played by Ben Wang.

Recently, they just dropped a trailer! We can watch it here:

A trip down memory lane

Growing up and watching Karate Kid showed how Martial Arts could be both a force of good and bad. Most of us put our kids through martial arts to teach them self-defense, neglecting the philosophy behind the techniques. Each form and move expresses a core virtue in the art, allowing practitioners to understand it better.

We saw that in the old Karate Kid movies. The conflict between the two dojos was not just about strength; it was a clash of philosophies. One dojo believed in Martial Arts as a demonstration of strength and dominance whereas Mr. Miyagi and Mr. Han believed in the art as a lifestyle. Some may find it strange but martial arts, as Mr. Han (played by Jackie Chan) says, is everywhere. Each move can be found in our daily lives.

When is Karate Kid: Legends coming out?

So far, the release date of Karate Kid: Legends is scheduled for May 30, 2025, in both the United States and Canada. However, the dates may vary depending on the country. The Philippines usually follows the United States’ schedule.

But what makes Karate Kid: Legends so unique is that we’ll see a blend of philosophies between two distinct martial arts. Kung Fu, just like Karate, has multiple strands and its own philosophies which can subconsciously influence the practitioners. Contrary to popular belief, those who understand its values and virtues are actually less violent than many believe. So if our kids are a bit too aggressive, maybe they might find balance in martial arts. All it takes is a bit of introduction which Karate Kid: Legends can do.
