‘The Odyssey 2026’: Another Classic Hits The Screen!
As parents try to find other ways to introduce the classic stories to their kids, Christopher Nolan brings to life a Greek classic: The Odyssey 2026
Many of us probably remember reading The Odyssey in school as a book report. Maybe it wasn’t our cup of tea, but we have to admit: most Greek stories are exciting. While some ended in tragedy due to hubris and human arrogance, others ended with a realistic joy. Something that today’s movies are trying to achieve. Besides, a lot of those movies follow certain plot elements that come from old classics like The Odyssey. And now, Christopher Nolan is bringing it to the silver screen in 2026!

What is The Odyssey?
Sure, we all love and read the drama that comes from The Trojan War – how a single woman, Helen, launched a thousand ships with just her face, how a mother, Clytemnestra, grieved when her husband, King Agamemnon, willingly sacrificed their daughter in hopes of better winds for their ships, and many others. But The Odyssey is the aftermath; it shows that not all victories are immediately enjoyed. Although a brilliant and cunning commander, Odysseus had to face punishment for his war crimes. His punishment was wandering the seas for more than ten years, leaving his wife, Penelope, and missing much of his son’s, Telemachus’s, life.
The director of the upcoming movie, Christopher Nolan, is no upstart. Besides the Dark Knight, his movie, Openheimer, did quite alongside the Barbie movie. So, we’re pretty sure that his take on The Odyssey may either be similar or better.
As for the cast, IMDB already released a couple of names: Odysseus will be played by Bourne film series’ Matt Damon, and the son, Telemachus, will be played by Tom Holland. According to TimeNowNews, Anne Hathaway will also be joining the cast as Penelope, the wife of Odysseus, Queen of Ithaca, and the one who issues the humanly impossible arrow trial. She’ll also be the narrator of the movie’s upcoming teaser trailer.
Big names like Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, Zendaya, and Lupita Nongy’o will also be in the movie. While the big film digital encyclopedia or the studio has not announced what their roles will be, we do know other characters will have to show: the mysterious witch Circe, the goddess of defensive war and wisdom Athena (who has long supported Odysseus as her champion), and the sea god Poseidon to name a few.

We all grew up with the classic!
While many of us read Homer’s The Illiad for school, most of our kids probably haven’t. Yet, they play so many video games that have been based on these epic heroes. While Achilles, the hero of The Illiad, was an unequalled fighter, Odysseus was a champion of another sort. As the Epic: The Musical calls him, he is a “Warrior of the Mind.” Though a talented fighter in his own right, we wanted our kids to admire him more for his cunning.
Some modern heroes do follow the same concept. Batman, despite being human, has always been able to take down monsters bigger than him because he did his homework. He even has a contingency plan for every member of the Justice League should they try to destroy humanity. And we grew up with this hero! It’s just that Odysseus was doing that before he became a thing.
According to IMDB, The Odyssey is scheduled to come out on July 17, 2026. As for the trailer, its tentative release will be on July 2, right as Jurassic World: Rebirth hits the theaters.
