6 Tips For Choosing Your Kid’s School Bag

School bags can be fashionable but they need to be practical, too!

It’s strange, but some kids compete via school bags. The more branded it is, the higher they are on the social ladder. But with schools encouraging simplicity, we’re trying to find bags that are simple, practical, and won’t embarrass our kids in school. With books turning into e-books and laptops becoming more of a necessity during classes, here are five tips for choosing your kids’ bags.

1. Pick a dark-colored school bag

Bright-colored school bags show dirt easily while dark colors hide all the grease and grime. Black is usually the preferred color since it matches almost every school uniform and is considered timeless. Most laptop backpacks come in black, which can also be versatile enough to be a school bag.

2. Consider slash-proof material

Bag brands that use slash-proof material may not be as trendy as other brands but, they are worth the investment. Especially if our kids take the train or public transport going to school, slashing is one of the most common forms of stealing in crowded places. Plus, these bags come with extra padlocks to prevent anyone from mugging them.

3. Look for a bag that dries fast or is water-repellant

Most school years start in the rainy season so, having a school bag that dries fast or repels water is a must. Nobody wants their books, laptops, and valuables soaked with rainwater. Nowadays, kids don’t bring lunchboxes anymore. Instead, they bring water flasks. If their water spills, at least the contents inside won’t get wet.

4. Try to avoid ones with prints

Besides simplicity, the school bag will grow with your kids. Having a plain school bag gives them more freedom to customize it and also saves money as they won’t run out of style. All the bag will need is a little tender loving care, and it can last them all the way to their college years.

5. Always check the lining of the bag

The biggest indicator of a bag’s quality is the sewing. And if the kids have a lot of heavy books, they will need something with high-quality sewing. Although some schools offer lockers for children to keep their books, some students prefer bringing their books everywhere with them. Most especially when they’re preparing for a big exam.

6. Choose a bag that won’t damage their backs

Most especially true for backpacks, studies have shown that these bags can contribute to a lot of back pain and future back problems in kids. Some brands put thick padding inside to serve as a skeleton so the bag won’t sag from the weight of the books.

School bags should be both practical and trendy!

It’s difficult balancing the trendiness and practicality in design for school bags. Some kids are more outspoken when they see their schoolmates using a different sort. But the important part is that our children can go to school with all their things intact.
