Toy Story 5 Teaser: Woody and Buzz Face a New Rival

Is the age of toys really over? Pixar’s Toy Story 5 hits cinemas on June 19, 2026

Pixar’s Toy Story has been part of every millennial’s childhood. Now the hit franchise is back with its fifth film — and this time, the toys led by Woody and Buzz feel genuinely threatened.

A Digital Dilemma

In the nearly one-minute clip, we hear Bonnie’s mom tell her that a package has arrived. As Bonnie unwraps it, each of the toys — Buzz, Woody, Jessie, and even Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head — looks scared.

The clip then cuts to Bonnie holding a smart tablet named Lilypad. The gang quickly finds themselves worried as they compete for playtime.

Tom Hanks returns as the voice of Woody, Tim Allen reprises Buzz Lightyear, and Joan Cusack returns as Jessie. Greta Lee lends her voice to Lilypad.

A New Story for the Toys

The full story of Toy Story 5 has yet to be unveiled, but director Andrew Stanton and co-director Kenna Harris said they had fun exploring how Woody, Buzz, and the gang might adapt to technology.

“It’s been a hilarious and poignant journey exploring how our favorite team of legacy toys might respond to today’s world of technology, and we’re thrilled to share this first glimpse with audiences. Having the remarkably talented Greta Lee bring Lilypad to life — balancing a playfully antagonistic tone with humor and heart — has been incredible,” the two directors said in a press release.

Aside from the main cast, it was announced early this year that Conan O’Brien will step in to voice a character named Smarty Pants.

In 2023, it was reported for a 2024 release, but was pushed back since.

A New Toy Story for Techie Kids

If the first four Toy Story movies were about competing for a child’s attention, the fifth is no exception. But in a time when technology has become the new toy, how can the classics stand out?
