Vicki Belo Considers Daughter Scarlet Her Secret to Surviving Cancer

The dermatologist to the stars, Vicki Belo, opens up to broadcaster Korina Sanchez on surviving breast cancer in 2016 and how her daughter Scarlet became her source of strength in her darkest moment.

Celebrity dermatologist Vicki Belo recently sat down with broadcaster Korina Sanchez to share how she battled breast cancer and how her daughter Scarlet played a big role in her healing. In the interview aired on Net25, Vicki revealed that she was diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer. Doctors told her she would die in two years.

“I went to Europe to seek treatment. That’s why I disappeared for about a year and a half to two years,” she said.

During the wedding of her older daughter Cristalle Belo-Pitt, Vicki was already bald from chemotherapy. “I went to Europe and was told there that I would die. Don’t bother having chemo, just fix your affairs. You’re dead in two years.”

The Belo Medical Group owner also told Korina that as she looked for possible treatments, her ex-husband Atom Henares accompanied her and her husband, Hayden Kho, to check for every test and have her treated.

Aside from battling cancer, Vicki had to deal with the sudden passing of her mom Nena.

Vicki Belo on how Scarlet saved her

Vicki shared that while doing an interview with CNN, she was continuing chemo. Her hair was already falling off. To divert the focus from her, it was right there that she spoke about Scarlet, and later on, the world would know about her and Hayden’s daughter.

Although prayers and support have helped her go through her darkest moment, it was her daughter Scarlet whom she considered her secret to surviving cancer.

Kasi I really look at her and I want to be with her. I don’t want to leave her naman so young. So I kept praying Lord, please give me time.”

Aside from Scarlet, she’s also proud of the accomplishments of her two kids Quark and Cristalle. Quark is currently based in Singapore working for Amazon Prime while Cristalle is currently in Australia. Christalle will be coming back to the Philippines soon with her husband Justin Pitt and their two kids.

On being a lola and what she wants to leave for Scarlet

With Cristalle’s return, Vicki is excited to be with her two grandkids—Hunter and Siena.

“I’ve been looking forward to being a lola for so long. Buti na lang I have Scarlet. Kahit papaano may bata pa din sa bahay,” she said.

Asked about what she wants to leave for Scarlet, Vicki mentioned that it was her daughter who helped her become who she is now. “Talagang feeling namin ni Hayden that she was destined to be a leader. It’s not like other kids na naging sikat yung mga bata because the parents are stars. In our case, si Scarlet ang nakatulong sa akin and yung followers ko umakyat dahil anak ko siya,” she said.

“And siya talaga ang naging star. And [she’s] very smart. So we just need to make her heart good.”
