What The Live-Action How To Train Your Dragon Trailer Tells Us

The live-action How To Train Your Dragon trailer just dropped and here’s what the kids can expect from the movie!

How To Train Your Dragon became both a literary and film success, with the franchise spanning several books, films, and series that our kids grew up and fell in love with. We’ll probably remember buying our kids figurines or stuffed toys that resembled the dragons only to put them away after they outgrew them. Well, it might be time to unearth them again from storage because the live-action How To Train Your Dragon just dropped their official trailer!

While it looks like the movie may follow the original plot, here are some things that might be different in the live-action movie.

Added cinematics for context

If we were to watch the trailer and the animated movie side by side, we may notice a few additional scenes. Some include the vikings’ exploration of the misty wall and even added battle scenes during the younger vikings’ training to slay dragons. There’s even one scene where Stoick and Hiccup have a more intense discussion compared to the one in the animated movie.

However, the biggest deal maker or breaker are probably the dragons. While Dreamworks has always delivered in terms of animation, some parents may have wondered how they’re going to adapt the dragons into the live-action. And based on the trailer, they didn’t disappoint. With additional textures here and there, Toothless the Night Fury, the Deadly Nadder (who eventually may become Astrid’s dragon, Stormfly) and the movie’s villain, the Red Death look more threatening with their flames appearing deadlier than the ones in the animated film. So the kids will probably have a deeper immersion when watching the live-action How To Train Your Dragon.

Release date and details of the live-action How To Train Your Dragon

Based on the trailer, the live-action How To Train Your Dragon‘s release date is on June 13, 2025. Right after Philippine Independence Day, there’s no indication that their announced date is for global release or specific to the United States or other countries.

What we do know, however, is that the movie has been filmed for IMAX cinemas, giving us a clue which theaters it might show in first. So, if you’re planning to watch, make sure to bring along some painkillers for those who easily get motion sickness. After all, How To Train Your Dragon has some of the most epic flight fights!
