YouTuber-Lawyer Team Sues Roblox Over Child Safety Gaps
Communities and parents have been turning up the heat against Roblox over child safety gaps
Although we know our kids love Roblox, things may not be looking too good for the company that makes our kids’ favorite video game. In recent weeks, the game has found itself at the center of a growing controversy surrounding child safety. Concerns have escalated and are now going to court in the United States. YouTuber-lawyer Law By Mike announced plans to take legal action against Roblox, citing what he describes as “the platform’s failure to adequately protect children.”
His announcement since then has gained over 8.8 million views overnight. He also has invited parents to file their complaints on his website: IThinkIHaveACase.com if they feel their child has been exploited on the platform.

Spotlight on Safety
In the video, Law by Mike declared that the company has not invested enough in moderation systems to match its massive user base. According to Tribune, the same lawyers representing Schlep—the YouTuber known for identifying predators on Roblox—would be joining the legal effort. However, the YouTuber later clarified that he isn’t personally filing the lawsuit.
Reddit has been abuzz with the development. Some remarked that things have gotten so real that it took an “internet lawyer” to step in. Others have continued commenting “FREE SCHLEP,” demanding that Roblox return the aforementioned YouTuber’s accounts.
Parents all across the nation had been filing multiple class-action lawsuits and personal injury claims. According to Attorney Martin Schmidt from Schmidt National Law Group, they filed a complaint accusing the company of “creating an environment where sexual predators can easily target children through the platform’s chat features, private messaging systems, and user-generated content.”
According to Wired, reports of self-reported child exploitation via Roblox climbed from 675 in 2019 to more than 24,000 in 2024, which raises questions about how effective the company’s new safety features truly are.
Roblox Responds
Roblox has defended its efforts as robust. The company highlights its investments in AI-driven moderation tools, a 24/7 monitoring team, tighter parental controls, and age-verification updates—tools it says demonstrate its commitment to child safety.
However, critics argue these efforts are reactive and inadequate, pointing to a gap between public messaging on safety and concerning internal admissions—such as acknowledgement that not all inappropriate interactions can be prevented.

Video games shouldn’t be used to hurt kids
Gamer parents will agree that the only acceptable forms of “hurt” anyone should get from video games are either heartbreak from well-written plots and character development, or crushing defeats because they misunderstood the game’s mechanics or a high difference in skill level.
Unfortunately, in a game that’s marketed to kids like Roblox, predators will always be about. Some predators are terrifyingly skilled at what they do. As parents, the first thing we have to remember is that no amount of cybersecurity can replace supervision and gadget literacy. Knowing how to use privacy settings, understanding the “non-verbal” social cues in online chats, and developing a gut instinct for online interactions are just some of the essential skills parents need to teach their kids.
While online games have helped kids survive the pandemic, they also challenge modern parents to become more tech-literate. Because in a world where online games have birthed communities of their own, nobody knows just how authentic their online persona is from their offline one.
