Michelle Obama is Releasing a New Book Inspired by Recent Events
The former US First Lady and mother of two’s new book The Light We Carry: Overcoming in Uncertain Times comes out in November.
Former US First Lady Michelle Obama is releasing a new book inspired by the recent events that have happened since she and her husband, former US President Barack Obama, stepped down from the White House. On July 21, Michelle announced that she wrote The Light We Carry: Overcoming In Uncertain Times.
Michelle Obama, who has two children—Sasha and Malia, said that a lot has changed since her first book Becoming came out. “We’ve seen a global pandemic. We’ve seen an insurrection. A rising tide of hate and bigotry and intolerance and a whole lot more.”
These events made her feel out of balance, afraid, and vulnerable. Reflecting on how to channel it into positivity led her to write the book.
The book as a toolbox
Michelle thinks of the book as a toolbox. “It’s a collection of perspectives and practices I’ve gathered over the years to help me keep centered even during times of high anxiety and stress.”
By being steadier, Michelle hopes it can help assure everyone that they are not alone. Especially during these challenging times.
These past few years, I’ve been thinking about how to stay centered in a world filled with so much uncertainty. And that process led me to writing my new book—The Light We Carry—coming out on November 15. Learn more at https://t.co/IZWLMRGTn5. #TheLightWeCarry pic.twitter.com/Eblo8Xoapc
