Smile Train Continues Their Mission Together with St. Vincent General Hospital
Smile Train and St. Vincent General Hospital launched a comprehensive cleft care center for parents to bring their children for cleft surgery and therapy.
In its effort to provide more smiles to children and teens with cleft issues, Smile Train and St. Vincent General Hospital launched a comprehensive cleft care center located in Marikina.
The launch coincided with the 12th year of their partnership. “It has been 12 years since we partnered with Smile Train to provide free treatment and care for individuals with cleft. Being able to offer comprehensive cleft care strengthens our resolve to provide life-changing treatment for the cleft community all-year round and in the future,” Dr. Jenny Deoduco-Mercado, Program Coordinator, said.
St. Vincent is just one of the many institutions that Smile Train has partnered with. Other partner organizations include Philippine Band of Mercy, Noordhoff Craniofacial Foundation of the Philippines, Craniofacial Foundation of the Philippines, San Fernandino Hospital in Pampanga, Mabuhay Deseret Foundation in ARC Hospital in Cebu, and Tebow CURE Hospital in Davao.
To date, Smile Train Philippines has supported close to 68,000 cleft surgeries in the country.
Closer and open to all
Jun Grimares, Program Director of Smile Train Philippines, said that working with St. Vincent General Hospital has allowed families in Rizal and even as far as Pampanga to get access to cleft operations for their children.
“To date, our partnership has helped thousands of Filipinos in need of comprehensive cleft care, performing over 4,900 life-changing surgeries. As the world’s largest cleft-focused organization, it is our vision to partner with more local hospitals and to make cleft care more accessible for Filipinos all year round.”
In addition, members of the media recently got a close look at the facilities. Aside from the operation, specialists for speech therapy orthodontics are on standby to help after the procedure.
St. Vincent General Hospital has been a partner of Smile Train since 2010. Moreover, they commit to giving good quality, accessible but affordable medical treatment to all.
The organization continues to get support with the help of its various spokespersons and ambassadors who have advocated for their cause. Some of their personalities include actress Marian Rivera, Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach, and Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray.
