TRS Holds Children’s Dance Concert in Ateneo After 3 Years

The Rivera Sisters (TRS) and Kidlat Dance Studio held a children’s dance concert at Henry Lee Irwin Theater last July 23.

After three years, the Rivera Sisters (TRS) and Kidlat Dance Studio held a children’s dance concert called All Stars last July 23 at the Henry Lee Irwin Theater in Ateneo. The dance concert is a culmination of the group’s summer dance workshop.

In an interview with Modern Parenting, sisters Therese and Patricia known as Coach Te and Patty, recalled the challenges they encountered in teaching dance online to children.

“It was challenging to only be able to teach our students from across a screen. However, dealing with internet woes, varying attention spans, and the obvious limitation of not being able to share physical space for such a kinesthetic activity, gave us unique insights on how to enhance our program. We elevated our teaching methods to be able to impart dance skills effectively amidst the virtual setup,” the two shared.

“In fact, a third of the 100+ performers from our July 23 concert had been training with TRS even prior to the resumption of in-person classes. With an even more robust dance training curriculum, returning to live performances was not difficult. We are so grateful that it was a fulfilling, smooth-sailing show! The sight of our students savoring their moments onstage greeted by their parents’ proud smiles always leaves us with a warm fuzzy feeling.”

Exciting things ahead

Following the success of the dance workshop, TRS and Kidlat Studios are gearing up for another round of dance workshops. They make sure that the kids will have a holistic approach.

” [The] age range for TRS Intensive Dance Programs (term-based) students is 4 years and above. Classes are open to girls and boys, from beginner to advanced-level enthusiasts. There is no age limit because we believe dance is for all ages. We even have clients or students who are learning how to dance well into their 60s! Private lessons are offered for those interested in customized schedules and tailor-made dance programs,” the sisters said.

They also continue to train a team called Kidlat Varsity. “[The] Kidlat Varsity and its trainees resume training in the hopes they can again represent the country in international competitions now that the COVID situation has stabilized. In the meantime, they may join local contests and focus on performance training with the release of dance concept videos!”

The group is also training those with special needs. “Our pioneered dance program combines the elements of dance and dimensions of Special Education and Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA). This is open to different ages and (degrees of) conditions.”
