Chinese Zodiac 2025: Year of the Wood Snake for Families

With January 29, 2025, marking Chinese New Year, here’s what we know about the zodiac of this year’s babies – the Wood Snake.

While the Dragon is revered the most in the Chinese zodiac, the Snake is the next best. Although the latter doesn’t have the best reputation biblically, the Snake is often considered unique especially when mixed with this year’s element: Wood. The Wood Snake zodiac is intrinsically charming and insightful, making them good company, especially among introverts. And when mixed with the wood element, they focus deeply (or may seem fixated) on always satiating their growing need for knowledge.

Wood Element: How It’s Seen In Family Culture

Historically, the Chinese used the elements to determine the rule of the dynasties. Arranged in a peculiar order, scholars and astrologists would interpret the elements and advise the ruling family (or usually the emperor) on how to lead the country to prosperity (Pankenier, 1995). Wood would then become part of the five elements alongside Metal, Fire, Water, and Air (Bertschinger, 2010).

In Chinese Astrology, people born under the Wood element usually have a strong and flexible personality akin to bamboo. They have a strong tendency to fixate on the idea of growth which most traditional Chinese business-oriented families enjoy especially in terms of building generational wealth. Some Taoist Chinese families even reason that those born under the wood or metal element are the best to run the family business because they are blessed by the elements of growth (wood) or resilience (metal) (Dahlin, 2016; Aplin-Houtz, Lane, Leahy, Willey, and Rowsey, 2023).

How Families See The Snake Zodiac

Snake-born individuals are described by three C’s: cunning, charming, and creative. Some would even say they are a resourceful lot. Their charm is only increased by their ability to deeply think, which can be frustrating for some parents. After all, complex philosophical, spiritual, and psychological discussions aren’t typical family dinner talk!

However, the Snake, due to its biblical notoriety, may influence some families. Some are not too fond of the whole snake’s “forked teeth” and can make them wary. Assuming that the personality follows exactly as the Chinese Zodiac predicts, it may make some family relatives feel uncomfortable or insecure in their presence. But the Snake zodiac can respond differently, depending on where they are in the family.

Snake Zodiac as a Parent

Generally and because snakes are a symbol of wisdom, parents born under the Wood Snake zodiac often find themselves as the “advisor” rather than the doer. Most members of the family would run to them for advice or look for their unique perspectives. They are also highly ambitious.

Snake-born moms, according to AstrologyK, are often highly sensitive to their children’s needs. They may act cautiously and hold their child’s trust above all else. She can be quite patient and resilient but is not one to admit one’s mistakes easily. Should she get into an argument with her child or husband, she may have a bigger tendency to bide her time and wait for them to apologize first.

Dads born under the zodiac sign of the snake, on the other hand, may not be the type to settle. They’ll always be looking for ways to help the family live, not just survive. They’re the kind of people who will clock in longer hours so long as it’ll get them the money and promotion that will help their family live comfortably. A person who prefer quieter pursuits, they bond best with their kids through reading books and intellectual games.

Snake Zodiac as a Child

Curious and highly intuitive, these kids are usually the ones stupefying adults with their tough, curve-ball type questions. While kids naturally have that ability, snake-born children do it more frequently which can be frustrating. If people are looking for presents then, they’re the type to appreciate those puzzle games or a few good books. By “good,” we mean those with an intriguing plot. Not the usual trending ones.

They’re increasingly charming and have a sense of elegance at a young age which makes it easier for them to get what they want. At some point, they even become aware so, reminding them about the discipline, work, and effort put in is a must.

Year of the Wood Snake: Spiritual and Philosophical Growth

As the snake is a representation of mystery and deep thought, the Wood element is all about growth. So families may find themselves in a more intuitive mood, looking for something new to learn or shining up some old knowledge with new updated techniques and skills.

For parents expecting a Wood Snake baby this year, congratulations! They’ll be a bundle of intuition and cleverness, offering one mental rollercoaster. These kids will be the poster definition of parental mental gymnastic, making sure the home is always mentally on their toes (in a good and intellectual way).
