Unmarry: Can You Find Love Again After a Marriage Ends?

Angelica Panganiban and Zanjoe Marudo lead a story that explores what happens when marriages collapse and where healing begins

For many couples, the vow to love and hold each other is meant to last a lifetime. But what happens when love fades? When does staying become harder than walking away? Unmarry tells the story of Celine and Ivan—played by Angelica Panganiban and Zanjoe Marudo—who confront these painful questions as their marriages fall apart.

The film is one of the entries to the 2025 Metro Manila Film Festival, premiering on December 25.

Unhappy Marriages

In the official trailer, we see Celine and Ivan drowning their grief as their marriages crumble. Their family lives are shown in fragments: Ivan is married to Maya (Solenn Heussaff) and is father to a young son, while Celine is married to Stephen (Tom Rodriguez).

The two eventually sit down with a lawyer (Eugene Domingo) who explains that an annulment requires them to detail their reasons for filing.

Celine then asks a question many feel but rarely say aloud: Hindi pa ba sapat na sabihin na hindi ko na siya mahal?”

The trailer reveals glimpses of why their marriages fell apart—Celine questioning whether Stephen ever truly loved her, and Ivan struggling to understand why 14 years of marriage are being thrown away.

And somewhere in the middle of their heartbreak, Celine and Ivan find themselves growing closer. Ivan tells her that once their annulments are finalized, they can finally begin again.

Staying Together or Separating?

Marriage is never perfect. Couples often say that being together means working together—but that work cannot fall on just one person. From the trailer alone, it’s clear that both Celine and Ivan tried to give their all to their marriages, only to watch things slip through their fingers.

Today, parents separating is no longer unusual. With divorce still not allowed in the Philippines, annulment has become the path many take when they can no longer stay in a broken marriage. But this process takes years, reshaping not just the couple’s lives but also their children’s.

And so the question lingers: How does one find happiness again after a failed marriage?

A Second Chance at Love

Unmarry isn’t just about two people questioning their relationships—it’s also about rediscovering hope. It invites married couples to reflect: Are we doing enough to make our relationship work?

More than a breakup story, it’s a reminder of what’s at stake when a marriage ends. It’s not just the couple whose lives change, but also the children who must navigate the shift. Conversations need to happen, feelings need to be acknowledged, and healing must be shared.

Because annulment isn’t simply a legal process—it’s an emotional reckoning for everyone involved. And sometimes, it’s the path that leads to a second chance at love, life, and self-worth.
