Aljur Abrenica Focuses on Being a Father Despite Failed Marriage
Speaking to Toni Gonzaga, Aljur Abrenica admits he cheated on estranged wife Kylie Padilla and despite his failed marriage, they remain co-parenting their two kids.
Aljur Abrenica sat down with host Toni Gonzaga to talk about life as a father and how he has been since separating from Kylie Padilla. During the interview, Aljur touched on life as a father to his sons Alas and Axl, the cheating allegations, and lessons from the failed marriage.
Aljur Abrenica admits cheating on Kylie
During the interview, Toni asked Aljur his reaction that the reason why the marriage failed was that he cheated on Kylie. Without batting an eyelash, Aljud admitted his fault.
“Totoo naman iyon. On my part, inaamin ko naman yung pagkakamali ko,” he said.
“The biggest mistake was hindi ako nagkaroon ng time sa kanila, nung nagkaroon ako ng takot to provide. Nawalan ako ng oras,” he added.
Although he and Kylie have separated, the two continue to co-parent their sons Axl and Alas. He added that his love for his estranged wife will always be there.
“Hindi na mawawala iyon. You can love a person from afar. May pinagsamahan kami.”
Being a dad
Despite the criticism thrown at him regarding his failed marriage, Aljur remains focused on being a father to his children.
Moreover, Aljur admits that he is privileged to have children, reminding him to be a better man.
“Nag-change talaga ako nung nagkaroon ako ng anak. Simple as nagkaroon ng sigla yung buhay ko ulit. It sets your priorities. Nagkakaroon ka ng direction and gives you a deeper purpose in life,” he explained.
The actor recalled a moment with his son Alas, where the child taught him the simple lesson of gratefulness.
“Na-hit ako [doon]. You have to be grateful. Coming from a 5-year-old kid.”
He and Kylie have since ironed out schedules to make sure they co-parent their children.
Lessons from the failed relationship
Although his marriage didn’t work out, Aljur said he has learned many things from it.
“Isa sa mga importante sa marriage is yung preparation. You have to be prepared. Don’t jump into it immediately. You have to be prepared mentally and emotionally.”
When asked if he was not prepared then, Aljur answered he felt he was ready but now that he looks back, he was not.
“Pag-iisipin ko after nitong separation namin, yung effort to understand, to compromise and to make a team, we’re okay as co-parents,” he shared.
As for the status of his heart, he simply said “sapat” about his relationship with his girlfriend AJ Raval.
“Sapat sa pagmamahal sa sarili ko, sapat sa pagmamahal sa Panginoon, sa mga anak ko, sa lahat ng mga importanteng tao sa buhay ko. Sapat ako, okay ako.”
