AGC PHC Chairman and CEO Archie Carrasco: Purpose Over Profit
Archie Carrasco recently won Master Entrepreneur for Media and Entertainment at Asia’s most prestigious award-giving body for entrepreneurial excellence.
Archie Carrasco is truly a man of many things. Most recently, the CEO and Chairman of AGC Power Holdings Corp (AGC PHC), which One Mega Group is a subsidiary of, won yet another accolade for his outstanding innovation in business. Last June, he received a nod at the Asia Leaders Awards. He was recognized as one of the 15 Rising Tigers and Nation Builders under the Men and Women Who Matter List 2022. This year, he soars higher at an acclaimed entrepreneurial organization, the Asia Pacific Enterprise Awards (APEA) 2022.
A Master Entrepreneur in the Media and Entertainment Industry
Mounted as a special gala dinner last October 20 in Penang, Malaysia, the event congregated top innovators across industries. These include mining, food and beverage, real estate, and finance—among others. Archie Carrasco stands in the hall of fame as he was named Master Entrepreneur in the Media and Entertainment industry.
Grounded on institutionalizing sustainability, fostering innovation, and accelerating growth, the APEA has empowered entrepreneurs since 2007. In fact, there are over 2,000 members connected through the spirit of business. As the premier entrepreneurial award recognition program in Asia, it promotes business development as an essential asset to a country’s economic advancement. Therefore, it empowers the legacy of entrepreneurs.
Navigating business in the era of COVID-19 marked the theme of this year’s APEA. Chairman of Enterprise Asia, Dr. Fong Chan Onn, explained in his opening speech that responsible entrepreneurship became a key driver in paving the path to positioning Asia at the top of the worldwide economic reset.
Awarded with honor by Penang’s Head of State, His Excellency Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak, Archie Carrasco was applauded for building one of the most influential media conglomerates from the ground up during the pandemic, AGC PHC.
Archie Carrasco shares the stage with 25 exemplary business leaders and enterprises across Asia. Other veterans were also recognized. First is the President and CEO of Pepsi-Cola Philippines, Frederick Ong. Then, there’s the founder and CEO of Bataras Malaysia, Goh Thian Teck. The rest are the Founder of LCY Development Brunei, Francis Lau Choo Yew; President and Chief Executive of Government Savings Bank Thailand, Vitai Ratanakorn; and Stamcorp International Singapore Founder, Nikhil Kumar.
His Modern Parenting Story
From just a single publishing company, One MEGA Group Inc. (OMGI), which is currently home to MEGA, Lifestyle Asia, BluPrint, The Business Manual, The Game and of course, Modern Parenting, he grew the ecosystem with diverse subsidiaries. First, there’s Digistar PH, which provides 360-degree marketing services. Then, there’s 7640, a full-scale production house. This is led by young entrepreneurs dedicated to producing local music and video content to uplift Filipino talent to a world-class standard. Last but not least is Mega Global Licensing Inc. (MGLI), a global media powerhouse that acquired Nylon Manila and Vogue Philippines.
In the midst of the turmoil and uncertainty during the first few months of the pandemic, Archie Carrasco, together with our Editor-in-Chief Marga Tupaz, thought about repurposing the now-defunct Celebrity Mom to a more inclusive parenting brand. A brand that is relatable not just to moms and dads, but to parenting figures as well. While the whole world was in lockdown, they took a leap of faith armed with a genuine purpose. To help families with children stuck in their homes cope with the challenges of the pandemic. Thus, Modern Parenting came to fruition in July of 2020.
Modern Parenting began with publishing just one or two stories a day. Our Editor-in-Chief hosted weekly Facebook Live shows called Real Talk. Here, we were able to invite parents and experts to share their personal experiences and professional expertise. In the process, we were able to build a community. To this day, we continue to entertain, inspire and inform our readers. All this through our website, social media platforms, annual print magazines, and videos.
As a true visionary, Archie Carrasco knew that Modern Parenting would be beneficial to families—especially during such unprecedented times. He also knew parents needed a go-to “companion” that would somehow help them in each of their unique parenting journeys. And true enough, in just a span of two years, Modern Parenting has reached close to 800,000 page views per month and its social media engagement has grown by 700% as compared to last year!
Archie Carrasco: Purpose Over Profit
As Archie Carrasco continues to cement his reputation in the business sphere, he never forgets his guiding principle of “Purpose Over Profit”. For him, one should be committed to positively impacting the lives of others, whether it may be your audience or your employees. And through AGC PHC, he creates meaningful content in media that showcases the talent of Filipinos. All this while providing opportunities for hundreds of employees.
