Movies Families Might Need To Watch To Enjoy Avengers: Doomsday

If the family’s planning to see Avengers: Doomsday, here are the movies the family might need to watch

While we’re all jumping for joy as the old cast returns in Avengers: Doomsday, we’re also now given more movies to watch. Unfortunately, that’s been a long-time quirk for the Marvel film franchise: to fully appreciate some of the movies, we’ll have to go back to some of the older movies or series. But instead of trying to figure out which movie or series to watch, here are the ones families might need to watch so that they can fully appreciate Avengers: Doomsday.

Marvel Movies That May Help Appreciate Avengers: Doomsday

These movies were teased and lined up together to build up for the upcoming big start of Marvel’s multiverse saga.

Thunderbolts*

Spoiler alert (or not really), Thunderbolts* brings together the group that’ll be facing Doomsday. Composed of Yelena, Red Guardian, the Winter Soldier, Bob (Sentry/ Void), U.S. Agent, and Ghost, they’re all individuals trying to find their place in the world. The film tackles their dark past and how they intend to move on from it, especially now with the world still looking for heroes to protect them from unknown forces.

Allegedly, the Thunderbolts* movie was shot in the same one as Avengers: Doomsday.

Fantastic Four: First Steps

The new and upcoming Fantastic Four was teased in the Thunderbolts* post-credits scene, and for those who read the comics, they are the original heroes who fought Dr. Doom. Based on the trailer, a lot of things were changed and teased. Sue Storm is pregnant in the film, which teases Franklin Richards and possibly Valeria Richards. For this universe, they also changed the Silver Surfer. Originally known as the young astronomer Norrin Radd, the Silver Surfer is now female and played by Julia Garner.

As to what the new Silver Surfer’s origin story is, we’re not sure.

Captain America: Brave New World

Since Anthony Mackie will be reprising his role as Falcon/Captain America in Avengers: Doomsday, it’ll also be good to watch and learn more about his role as Captain America. While the series Falcon and The Winter Soldier tackled Sam Wilson’s journey of inheriting the mantle and the introduction of U.S. Agent, it’s only in Captain America: Brave New World where he showcases his abilities and character as the new Captain America.

Supplementary Movies or Series

While they help make the plot Avengers: Doomsday easier to understand, they’re not exactly a must-watch. These movies or series are there just to help explain things better.

Loki (Season 1 and 2)

Seasons 1 and 2 of Loki explain how the multiverse works. It tackles how the Marvel multiverse works and how heroes can just pop out of nowhere. That way, we’re not all wondering who came from what and where.

Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness

Although Avengers: Endgame introduced the multiverse, Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness demonstrates what happens when someone plays around with it. Unfortunately, the villain for this movie is the Scarlet Witch, who has been embittered after the loss of her brother, Pietro, the man she loved, Vision, and her two boys: Billy and Tommy.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

With the late Chadwick Boseman passing away due to cancer, the mantle of the Black Panther is now passed onto Letitia Wright, who plays Shuri, the younger sister. The movie doesn’t just tackle how she’ll be as the new Black Panther but also the various characters who may be involved, such as Namor and Ironheart.

Deadpool and Wolverine

Granted, it’s officially an R-13 movie, Deadpool and Wolverine do tackle the importance of a specific timeline: the one we know now. It calls the timeline the films have been following the “sacred timeline,” explaining why people are either so desperate to protect it or destroy it.

There were also hints that the X-Men would finally be making their appearance in the Marvel cinema-verse.

What else do we know about Avengers: Doomsday?

While Marvel films can be watched as a standalone, it helps to watch some of the prequels in case Avengers: Doomsday makes some references.

While there’s no official trailer yet that teases the plot about Avengers: Doomsday, those who watched Thunderbolts* and the post-credits may have an idea what may happen. Besides the Fantastic Four possibly clashing with the Thunderbolts*, there are also issues with the name ‘Avengers‘. The team had always been led by Captain America. And for a rag-tag team to pop out of nowhere to take the name, that’s definitely going to cause a rift with one of the original members.

Superhero movies have always been a family favorite. But with Marvel expanding the universe, it can be a bit hard to keep up. We hope the little movie guide helps everyone build themselves up for Avengers: Doomsday while waiting!

As of now, Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to debut in the United States on May 1, 2026.
