Celebrate Buwan ng Wika with LEGO and This National Artist’s Creations

This Buwan ng Wika Event will be held in Shangri-La Plaza’s Grand Atrium. It showcases LEGO’s collaboration with National Artist Fernando Armosolo.

Teaching our kids art appreciation with Filipino artists is hard. All the more when it takes so much effort to drag them to a museum. But they’d never say no to something like Build City. This August 9 to 14, to celebrate Buwan ng Wika, LEGO will be holding a grand event in the Shangri-La Plaza Grand Atrium—by bringing national artist Fernando Armosolo’s creations to life using their favorite toy blocks: LEGO.

Commemorating the ‘Grand Old Man of Philippine Art’

Besides Juan Luna, there are not many Filipino artists who strike the same awe when someone declares an art piece to be an Armosolo. In the Grand Atrium, the Pinoy LEGO Users Group (PinoyLUG) will recreate three of Amorsolo’s iconic works: Bayanihan, Dalagang Bukid, and Early Traders. Not only is it a showcase of Philippine talent but a message that it’s possible to have better things when communities work together.

There will also be a painting workshop for kids who would like to try their hand at the arts. Held by the Fernando C. Amorsolo Art Foundation, Inc., the workshop will be on August 13 from 10:30 to 2:30 PM. Frustrated artists or parents who find themselves drawing for their kids’ art projects may find value in joining the Sketching for Adults Workshop. This will be on August 14, 10:30 to 2:30 PM. Workshops will be PHP800.00 and PHP500.00 respectively.

The cherry on top? Toys R Us will be part of the exhibit as well. They’ll be hosting the most favorite part of every kid in a toy store: the Lego Free Play and Activity. Or what some call the “Builder’s Table” or the “LEGO Pit”.

Build a Greater Appreciation for Filipino Artists with LEGO

A lot say that Filipinos are our own worst critics. Even for kids. They find themselves giving up on their creativity and artistic talent after being discouraged repeatedly from pursuing the arts. But with LEGO taking the initiative for this Buwan ng Wika event, there may be some hope in teaching kids that there should be appreciation for the Filipino arts.
