Why “Cloud Dancer” Might Be the Perfect Reset Your Family Needs
Here’s what we know about Pantone’s 2026 color of the year: Cloud Dancer
For the first time, Pantone chooses white as the color of the year. Known as “Cloud Dancer,” the institute describes the color of the year 2026 in their Instagram post as a “lofty white neutral whose aerated presence acts as a whisper of calm and peace in a noisy world.”
With all the flashing lights from the screens, our eyes and our kids’ eyes need a break. Cloud Dancer may be just the shade of white many of us are looking for. Whether we repaint a nursery, change the covers on the furniture, or even bring out all our whites from the wardrobe, white is a classic hue that rarely loses its shine and appeal.
Why Cloud Dancer—a white shade—of all colors?

“Cloud Dancer is associated with new beginnings; it signifies our desire for a fresh start,” says Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute.
“It’s about creating a world of balance between our digital future and our primal need for human connection,” adds Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Institute.
White is a refreshing color, tricking our mind to feel a breeze even when there’s none. It’s also our favorite shade for the summer; almost all of our bohemian-themed pieces offer that Cloud Dancer vibe.
It’s also a color we’d gladly use for our baby’s nursery. Gender-neutral and easily customizable as they grow, Cloud Dancer will also make the room less prone to feeling hot. It’ll also make our baby’s colorful toys pop.
The Struggle of Maintaining White Hues at Home

Since it’s a shade of white, Cloud Dancer may also become one of the hardest colors to maintain and clean. And for some parents, it’s better to be practical than to sigh at the stains on the white walls or furniture.
Especially when we live in a house full of tumbling toddlers who seem determined to terrorize the white furniture, we can’t help but feel anxious. Here are some ways to add and maintain it at home:
- Cover the white furniture in plastic. Our lolas were onto something when they covered their white linens and furniture with plastic. Not only were the stains easy to wipe off, but the sofa always looked clean, too.
- Vinegar or hydrogen peroxide will be your best friend for removing those oxidized, discoloring stains. Hydrogen peroxide—at least 3%—with some water ought to do the trick.
- Bleach is also the usual go-to for removing oxidized stains, but the chemicals can be poisonous for kids and pets.
Fashion Pieces Moms Will Love in Cloud Dancer White

Besides the classic white button-down shirt, Cloud Dancer white can make almost any piece feel airy. The classic bohemian maxi skirt is a must-have, especially for those family beach trips. A shawl would lighten a classic all-black attire if attending a black-tie event. And for the moms collecting white crystals for their jewelry, howlite, clear quartz, selenite, and moonstone fit the bill.
If not stones, then pearls. A lot of them come in a silvery white color, too!

A Signal to “Reset” with Color of the Year 2026
In a world that’s loud — with notifications, deadlines, errands, and crowded feeds — Pantone’s color of the year 2026, Cloud Dancer reminds us that sometimes, less is more. For families juggling many roles, this soft white offers more than style; it offers space.
Space to rest. Space to breathe. Space to be present. It’s not about perfect walls or spotless floors — it’s about creating moments of stillness, connection, and quiet possibility.
Because when your home feels grounded and light, even the heaviest digital noise seems a little softer, and the heart feels a little fuller.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Pantone’s 2025 Color of the Year was Mocha Mousse — a warm, soft brown chosen for its comforting, grounding vibe.
They cited a collective desire for serenity, a fresh start, and mental clarity in a fast-paced, digitally saturated world — calling the soft white a “billowy, balanced white” that serves as a blank canvas for simplicity and creativity.
Its balanced neutral tone works with virtually any decor, reflects light to make rooms feel brighter, and creates a calming, clean backdrop — ideal for family spaces, study corners, or restful bedrooms.
Choose washable, easy-to-clean materials; use slipcovers or rugs for high-traffic areas; encourage “shoes-off” zones; and accept that some imperfection is part of family life — which in itself tells a story.
Almost anything! Soft pastels, muted earth tones, or bold accent pieces all shine with white. Pantone suggests palettes from powdery pastels to organic naturals or even dramatic contrasts if you crave character.
