Digimon Pays Tribute To The “Kids Who Grew Up With Them” With The New Digimon Adventure-BEYOND-

It looks like another classic series may make a comeback as TOEI Studios drops a special project video: Digimon Adventure-BEYOND-

Growing up, millennial parents will recall “wishing” for two kinds of creatures as companions: it was either Pokémon or Digimon. While Pokémon has maintained its popularity among kids and parents alike by expanding the universe, Digimon has dropped some nostalgia trips here and there with its videos — especially with their latest special project video Digimon Adventure-BEYOND-. As a video celebrating Digmon’s 25th anniversary during Digicon, the studio producing Digimon sends a message to the “kids who grew up with the series”:

“This project is filled with gratitude to all the “children” who have been together with us through so many adventures. We hope that you watch “Digimon Adventure -BEYOND-” while thinking back on that summer’s adventure!” writes TOEI in the caption for their YouTube upload.

Making summers memorable

Digimon was a dream come true for the summers of many millennial parents. If we couldn’t leave the house or go anywhere fancy then, we would dream of traveling to a different world with an animal companion. The best part was that these animal companions could change in form and size, becoming practical in both combat and travel. And for those who forgot, our summers were the height of those little hand-held devices where pets could be cared for: the Tamagotchi. For the “kids” who grew up with Digimon, we made sure all of us had a Digivice — the signature gadget of the series that allowed us to interact with the digital monsters, or for short, Digimon.

Maybe our Gen-Z Kids or Gen-Alpha kids would raise a few eyebrows at us fawning over an old franchise. But how can we not? Besides the characters aging up with us, the storyline has continued to resonate with us: it’s an eventful summer that the kids of today would remember and carry on to adulthood.

Will Digimon Adventure-BEYOND- stay a project?

Unfortunately, TOEI Studios is still mum on whether or not Digimon Adventure-BEYOND- will expand into a series. However, the synopsis they conveniently left in the YouTube description seems to tease it: “Time has passed since that summer adventure, and there are even more children with partner Digimon now. However, because of their unique nature, many children face the looming shadows of persecution and being targeted for military use. While Taichi and Yamato are working to rescue children, they are attacked by mysterious Digimon.”

It may have been 25 years since that series but it’s a summer that’s still fresh in many parents memories. Whether it’s because they bought a Digivice years ago as a child to imagine their adventures as one of the characters (or the ones they call the DigiDestined) or they kept up with the series on Hero TV channel (Channel 44 on Sky Cable), Digimon will always be a classic for many.
