Disney Is Developing Coco 2

The project is still in its early stages and might be released in 2029

Coco is getting a sequel. During a shareholder’s meeting, Disney CEO Bob Igler announced that Pixar is currently developing Coco 2.

“While the film is just in the initial stages, we know it will be full of humor, heart and adventure,” he said.

So far, only a few details have been released. The creative team behind the first film led by directors Lee Unkrich and Adrian Molina will reunite for the project.

Coco’s background

Coco tells the story of a young Latino boy named Miguel who dreams of becoming a musician. He embarks on a journey to the Land of the Dead and discovers more about his family background as he meets his grandfather, seeking help convincing his family to let him become a musician.

The Pixar film was one of the first for the company to have a lead character that is of Latino descent. The film’s song “Remember Me,” won an Oscar for the tandem of Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez. It also won a Best animated feature at the Oscars and received various nominations from award giving bodies.

Disney is reportedly eyeing a 2029 release so that’s a long time wait for those who watched the first film. Aside from the sequel, a ride-through action is also being developed for Disneyland California.

The waiting game

Coco 2 joins a list of films families and kids will have to wait for now. Disney and its subsidiaries have been working hard on several films to be released in the next five years, including several Marvel films.

But as they say, patience is a virtue. Now that Snow White has been released, hold on to your seats. In the next few weeks films including Lilo and Stitch, Thunderbolts, Elio, and the Fantastic Four, will be released.
