How To Plan Your Teen’s Halloween Party This 2023

Teenage years is when our kids want to start throwing house parties so here’s an easy guide on how to throw the best teen-centric Halloween party this 2023!

Our teens are now at the phase where they crave their friends’ approval. From throwing parties to the costumes they wear, they’re looking for all sorts of ways to be part of the “in-crowd” this Halloween. Of course, as parents, we want to be supportive but at the same time, make sure our teens are safe. So that we’re not such a wet blanket when planning these parties, here’s a quick guide on how to throw amazing Halloween parties for teens:

How To Plan Your Teen's Halloween Party This 2023

1. Choose a place that reflects your teen’s personality

Not all teens are party animals! Some teens prefer staying at home and having a Netflix and Chill party. The venue plays a big role; if our teens love loud parties and have a lot of friends, maybe the village clubhouse or a restaurant might be a better option since we won’t have to clean up anything. But if our teens prefer something intimate with their core group of friends, maybe a Halloween-themed home theatre in the guest room or living room with all the snacks and horror movies and series to binge on may be a better choice.

2. Balance out the healthy and unhealthy snacks

Unlike when they were kids, teens are more health-conscious because they’ll immediately notice if the snacks make them bloat or break out with acne. Artistic teens may even prefer some homemade goodies like Zombie Avocado Toast, Halloween-themed Rice Balls, and many other healthy trick-or-treat snacks to balance out the bowl of chocolate and candy on the table.

3. Try not to check on your teen too much

Teens are not just balancing the approval from their friends but ours, too. Although we’re anxious about sending them to a party, we have to trust them a bit to know that they’re more knowledgeable about today’s party climate than we are. Although texting every hour or so is okay to check in, calling them may cause us more anxiety because the loud music might block out the ringing of their cellphones, prompting the horror movie, “One Missed Call.”

4. There’s no shame in ordering take-out

Our home cooking is reserved for family members only! Instead of slaving away on a hot stove for a Halloween party, order some take-out! Because the pandemic pushed families to hold house parties, a lot of restaurants still maintained their party tray menus because of how it appealed to more practical families. Since it’s Halloween, some other restaurants might even have limited-edition party packages that can help save a few pesos.

Ordering these also keeps the mess to a minimum. No need to wash any pots and pans and for dining, paper plates will do just fine.

5. Add some mocktails to spice up our teens’ Halloween party

They think it’s cool to drink but we know the aftermath isn’t. So, why not make something in the middle? Halloween is the holiday for parents to appease their inner and frustrated mixologist by creating some spooky-themed drinks. They don’t need to be alcoholic drinks; they just have to look the part! There’s food coloring, fruit juices, club soda, and various drinks available. And with our handy-dandy blender or bottle, we can easily shake up a drink for our teens’ Halloween party.

Besides, all those punch bowls we received as wedding gifts many, many years ago will now finally have a use.

6. Try to find a place that can insulate the sound

We want our teens to have a fun Halloween party but not at the expense of our neighbors’ eardrums! The patio, dining room, terrace, or even the guest room can create some form of sound insulation so that our neighbors can still carry on with their day without getting jump-scared from our teens screaming from a horror movie. We also suggest sending maybe a small package to the neighbors as a form of awareness so that they won’t come banging on the door.

7. Feel free to create DIY loot bags!

Kids, teens, adults — no matter what age, a Halloween loot bag is always appreciated. It’s free candies and goodies which will earn us brownie points even with the parents. When the teens return home to their own parents, the loot bag also assures the parents that we had some hand in the teens’ Halloween party to make sure their kids were partying safely. They can have chocolates, some mint candies, and maybe a few Halloween-themed waterproof stickers they can design their laptops or waterjugs with.

8. Prepare a Spotify playlist

How many times has Spotify saved our parties from being a silent drag? We don’t even need internet; all we have to do is prepare the playlist on Spotify, download the songs onto the device, and the playlist will keep playing until the battery runs out. Also, make sure that the Bluetooth speaker is fully charged. Nobody wants to get spooked by the speaker suddenly dying out of nowhere.

How To Plan Your Teen's Halloween Party This 2023

It takes a bit of creativity to balance safety and thrill for a teen’s Halloween party!

Teens are all about experimenting. They will try out various things like alcoholic drinks and smoking without telling us about it, especially if they know how strongly we disagree with it. But our teens are not kids anymore; they’ve outgrown the usual Jollibee and McDonald’s kiddie parties and want something that’s more up to their interest and speed. Although there are Halloween party organizers, our teens may prefer planning it themselves, too. After all, they know what today’s teens are like. Our job is just to make sure they don’t do anything illegal.
