Jackie Chan, Ralph Macchio: “Karate Kid 2024 In The Works!”

Two nostalgic actors who played poignant characters in the Karate Kid world have revealed that Karate Kid might have a movie this coming 2024!

It looks like we have a lot to look forward to in 2024 as multihyphenate action star Jackie Chan, who played Mr. Han in the 2010 Karate Kid, and Ralph Macchio (the original actor of Daniel Larusso from Karate Kid) spilled the tea: Karate Kid 2024 is now in production and has opened up for a casting call! The two are set to reprise their popular characters, even exchanging banter in the video.

“So let’s start wax on, wax off, everybody,” quotes Ralph from the late Pat’s instruction as Mr. Miyagi.

“You mean jacket off, jacket on, hang it up,” Jackie jokes, referencing Dre’s training in the 2010 reboot.

Ralph then shrugs, “Maybe the new karate kid will have to do it all!”

The Heartwarming Action Cinematic Universe Makes A Comeback

We grew up with Mr. Miyagi — played by the late Oscar Nominee Pat Morita — as the teacher with the mantle then passed on to action star Jackie Chan as he teaches Kung Fu to Dre (played by Jaden Smith) in the 2010 reboot. After that, we had Netflix’s Cobra Kai: a series that picks up after Daniel Larusso (still played by the original actor Ralph Macchio) discovers that the dojo is making a comeback with Johnny Lawrence (played by the movie’s original actor, William Zabka) as its leader.

Karate Kid made its mark as a timeless classic as it shows both sides of martial arts: it can be both a force of good and bad. In the 1984 movie, Daniel fights against the students of Cobra Kai who practice the same art as he does but with the single-track goal of inflicting pain. Mr. Miyagi, on the other hand, insists on teaching Daniel the philosophy of the martial art as a form of self-defense and a way of life. Ultimately, Daniel triumphs, similar to how Dre triumphed after both of them discovered the martial art’s origin.

Although the plot is still in the works, we’re excited to see the merging and possibly clashing philosophies of both Kung Fu and Karate — both arts that have deep historical roots in their originating countries and how it’ll apply to the newest Karate Kid.

What Do We Know So Far About Karate Kid 2024

As of now, the other actors who had roles in the cinematic universe like the actors of the Netflix series and even Jaden Smith have remained mum about their involvement. And if they do decide to join every family’s favorite cinematic dojo, we’re excited to find out what their role would be. Especially with Jaden who could reprise his role as Dre and maybe Mr. Han’s former student, he could be involved with the guidance of the newest Karate Kid.

The Karate Kid cinematic universe has always delighted families on the silver screen, even birthing sub-universes such as the Miyagi-verse, in honor of Pat Morita. We’re hoping it stays true to the philosophy of what it means to be a Karate Kid this 2024 wherein martial arts is not just a sport but a way of life.
