Jurassic World: Rebirth Arrives With Jonathan Bailey And Scarlett Johansson

The two actors star embark on a new adventure in the Jurassic franchise alongside Mahershala Ali

The Jurassic Park franchise has officially expanded. On Wednesday, February 5, the trailer for Jurassic Park: Rebirth, starring Jonathan Bailey, Scarlett Johansson, and Mahershala Ali, was posted.

In the trailer, Dr. Henry Loomis (Bailey) and Zora Bennett (Johansson) meet for the first time and discuss a mission on an isolated island, said to be inhabited by dinosaurs. Together with Duncan (Ali), their group travels to the island and discovers where the “first research facility of the original Jurassic Park” is said to be.

One of their missions? Get DNAs of three dinosaurs, which won’t be easy given they have to maneuver carnivore creatures who run after them.

The story takes place five years after Dominion. The synopsis read: “The planet’s ecology has proven largely inhospitable to dinosaurs. Those remaining exist in isolated equatorial environments with climates resembling the one in which they once thrived.”

The third era of Jurassic Park

Rebirth, announced last year signals the third era of the franchise, after Dominion in 2022. Based on the reviews so far, many are wondering where the cliffhangers of Fallen Kingdom and Dominion fit into the seventh film in the franchise. If you haven’t watched films, it’s basically how dinosaurs incorporate themselves into the world of mankind without fighting each other.

When the Jurassic World franchise, led by Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, was first released, there were mixed reviews. However, it eventually became a smash hit with the return of its original cast—Jeff Goldblum, Laura Dern, and Sam Neill—in Dominion, which bridged the storyline of the first Jurassic films with the franchise.

Looks like we have to just wait for the next few trailers to know what we’re really in store as Henry, Zora, and Duncan give us a glimpse of the island they are embarking on.

This ain’t the last of the films

In the first Jurassic Park films, we were introduced to the world of dinosaurs with minimal technology. As kids, it was mesmerizing then, and intrigued by the dynamics of Ellie Sattler (Dern) Ian Malcolm (Goldblum), and Allan Grant (Neill). Fans know Allan and Ellie had a past and eventually reconciled.

Jurassic World introduced us to the love-hate relationship of Owen (Pratt) and Claire (Howard). The two eventually set their differences aside, got together as they battled for the dinosaurs, and raised a child.

The Jurassic Park franchise has been well-received in Hollywood, so it’s understandable if fans would raise eyebrows about Rebirth. While fans have yet to explore the new film, it’s safe to say that we won’t be saying goodbye to the franchise yet.

Jurassic World: Rebirth is set for release on July 2, 2025 in the U.S.
