Movies for the Holy Week
The 10 Commandments
The 1956 film starring Charlton Heston and Yul Brynner has become one of the most-watched movies during Holy Week. The story revolves around Moses who returns to Egypt to release the Hebrews from the Egyptians under Pharoah Ramses II.
The Prince of Egypt
The 1998 animated movie is also based on the story of Moses and his mission to free the Hebrews under the hands of the Egyptians. The film is known for some of its popular songs including the hit song “When You Believe” performed by Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey. Additionally, the film boasts a powerful cast of voice actors led by Val Kilmer, Ralph Fiennes, Sandra Bullock, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Helen Mirren.
Jesus Christ Superstar
The 1973 film is based on the 1970 rock opera of the same name wherein the characters retrace the Passion of Christ. Today, the pop-rock opera continues to be one of the most-watched shows with various versions made for TV.
The Song of Bernadette
The 1943 movie stars Jennifer Jones as Bernadette, who started seeing Blessed Virgin Mary at a grotto in Lourdes, France. The movie is based on a novel by Franz Werfel about the life of St. Bernadette.
The Miracle of Our Lady of Fatima
The movie tells the story of three children – Jacinta, Francisco, and Lucia, who witnessed the appearance of a beautiful woman in Fatima, Portugal.
