Lucy Torres Gomez is Appointed Auxiliary Commodore by Philippine Coast Guard

The Coast Guard District Eastern Visayas recently bestowed the honorary rank of Auxilliary Commodore to Ormoc Mayor Lucy Torres Gomez.

Last October 7, 2022, Ormoc Mayor Lucy Torres Gomez was given the honorary rank of Auxilliary Commodore during the celebration of the Philippine Coast Guard Eastern Visayas’ 11th founding anniversary.

In a Facebook post, PCG Commandant, CG Admiral Artemio M. Abu, led the honor. Lucy’s husband, Leyte 4th district representative and actor Richard Gomez accompanied her during the ceremony.

“Considered as a milestone within a milestone. On that same day, City Mayor Lucy Torres Gomez was officially ‘appointed to the service of the Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary Executive Squadron with the honorary rank of 𝐀𝐮𝐱𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐨𝐝𝐨𝐫𝐞’ pursuant to HPCG Memorandum Circular 01-14. The rank signifies Mayor Lucy’s responsibility to uphold peace in coast as well as in land which she faithfully does when she was still the congresswoman and as the incumbent City Mayor,” the Facebook announcement read.

Actor Diether Ocampo, who is also an Auxilliary Captain, took part in the ceremony.

A growing list of enlisting personalities in serving the country

Lucy joins the list of celebrities and personalities that the Air Force, Coast Guard, Navy, and Army have honored or enlisted. Her husband Richard is a reservist for the Navy with the rank of Chief Petty Officer.

Among the celebrity parents who have been enlisted include actor Rocco Nacino, who is part of the Navy Reservists, and Dingdong Dantes who is now a lieutenant commander in the Navy Reservist. Then, there’s singer Geneva Cruz, who is part of the Philippine Airforce Reservist Command, and new mom Winwyn Marquez. Lastly, former Batangas representative and actress Vilma Santos took oath as a reservist in the Air Force in 2012.
