Maine Mendoza’s Advice: An Important Reminder for Parents
During the ‘Bawal Judgment’ segment on Eat Bulaga last March 7, Maine tells a mom not to pass the responsibility of getting out of poverty to her child.
Eat Bulaga host and online star Maine Mendoza recently got everyone’s attention when she reminded a parent not to pass heavy responsibilities to her child. During the “Bawal Judgment” segment of Eat Bulaga last March 7, a young mom shared her message for her 7-year-old son, where she encouraged him to study hard as they’re depending on him to get them out of poverty.
“Ace, sana mag-aral kang mabuti dahil alam kong ikaw ang makakaahon sa amin sa kahirapan,” she shared.
“Ikaw yung pursigido para gumanda ang buhay natin. Tsaka bata ka pa, kahit bata ka pa may pangarap ka na talaga.”
In a calm manner, Maine reminded Incess that she and her husband are still young and can still pursue their dreams despite tying the knot at an early age.
“Ang bata mo pa Incess, kayong mag-asawa may pagkakataon para palakihin or pagandahin ang inyong buhay,” Maine advised.
“At tsaka bata pa si Ace. Huwag natin ipasa sa kanya ang responsibilidad. Marami ka pang magagawa. Kayo ni Mister.”
The segment went viral on social media with many netizens commending Maine on the message.
A reminder to parents
Maine’s message is not the first time a celebrity commented about kids being made as retirement plans. In 2022, actress Jaclyn Jose shared her sentiments, reminding parents not to depend much on their children.
“It’s our responsibility as parents to take care of the kids, not the other way around! They’re still kids,” the Cannes Film Festival 2016 actress pointed out. “We are supposed to love, care, support, and help them in any way we can.”
Early this year, celebrity couple and parents Slater Young and Kryz Uy also tackled the issue on their podcast. The parents of two sons pointed out that it’s a Filipino trait because of “utang na loob.”
“When it’s a favor, it should be done freely,” Slater said. “Hindi mo na siya dapat pag-isipan.”
This helps parents reflect a lot on putting so many expectations on their kids.
