Miss Universe Colombia Winner Camila Avella is a Mom!
Camila Avella, a mother and wife, was crowned as the new Miss Universe Colombia 2023. She will represent her country in El Salvador.
After Guatemala, Colombia has also made history as they crowned a 27-year-old model and mom, Camila Avella, who will represent the country in the Miss Universe pageant in El Salvador.
Camila Avella, a mother of a two-year-old daughter and a wife, succeeded Maria Fernanda Aristizabal. Camila is the first Miss Universe Colombia who is a mother and married woman. The pageant was held last September 2, Manila time.
Aside from being a model, Camila is also a content creator and TV host.
Changing pageant landscape
Camila Avella’s win marks the growing changes in beauty pageants. Prior to her win, Guatemala crowned Michelle Cohn, another mother, who will compete in the same pageant.
In 2022, the Miss Universe organization, which is now under the management of Thai businesswoman Anne Jakrajutatip, has allowed women who are single parents and those married with kids to join. Early this year, Miss Universe Philippines allowed three married women and a single mom to compete.
The Philippines will be represented by Michelle Dee, daughter of Melanie Marquez in the pageant in November.
