Miss World Philippines 2021 Tracy Maureen Perez’s Beauty With a Purpose Project for Single Mothers Gets Funding from Organization
Tracy’s project Para Kay Nanay: A Single Mother’s Journey to Love is among the 6 projects that the Miss World Organization will fund and visit
Miss World Philippines 2021 Tracy Maureen Perez said she is very touched that her Beauty with a Purpose Project Para Kay Nanay: A Single Mother’s Journey to Love was selected as one of six projects that the organization will fund.
“Yes, they [Miss World Organization] will be funding my project,” she said during a catch-up with the media as she prepares to go back to Puerto Rico in March for the finals. “They will be personally coming here to the Philippines to oversee the project. Of course, I am happy. This is not just my win, it’s their win and I was glad to be able to bring them to the Miss World stage because they need help.”
Para Kay Nanay: A Single Mother’s Journey to Love is a project Tracy started with the single moms in her hometown in Cebu. With help from members of the community, they are able to help train the single moms in BPO and computer skills, which they can use to apply for jobs. Other projects include fitness activities and discussions.
Personal visit
Before she flies back to Puerto Rico, Tracy Maureen Perez said that she hopes to personally visit the single moms and those who were affected by typhoon Odette. Cebu was one of the provinces badly hit by the typhoon last December.
“As you all know, Cebu has greatly been affected by Typhoon Odette and the island that I visited, and the houses of the single mothers have been greatly affected,” she said. “I like to personally visit them and ask how they are, ask them what I could do to help.”
Tracy said that given the time frame, she hopes to go back soon, adding that sitting down and taking time to be with them will boost their morale.
In her speech during the head-to-head challenge last December, Tracy said that her project is dedicated not only to single moms but her late mother.
“Being a mother is the most important job, the most important role, yet oftentimes they are neglected. We fight so much, we talk so much about woman empowerment so why don’t we start empowering our mothers. Most especially those who go through so many difficulties having to raise their families all on their own.” she said.
The Miss World pageant was postponed to March 16 after several candidates and staff members tested positive for COVID-19. Tracy hopes to win the second crown for the country since Megan Young, who won the crown in 2013.
