The Pedro Penduko Trailer Gives a Peek into the World of Filipino Mythology
Matteo Guidicelli gives life to Pedro Penduko, one of the Philippines’ most well-known comic superheroes.
Today’s generation of kids look up to superheroes thanks to the movies of Marvel and DC Comics. The Philippines also has its own superheroes and Pedro Penduko is one of them!
On Friday, October 20, Viva Films posted the first trailer of the much-awaited adaptation starring Matteo Guidicelli, who gives life to the character. In the trailer, Pedro is a waiter who is good in combat and has magical powers.
He encounters people from the magical world played by Kylie Verzosa, Arron Villaflor, Annika Co, Phoebe Walker, and Candy Pangilinan. Moreover, he undergoes training and embraces his destiny in fighting evil around him.
The trailer also shows a peek into the world of sorcery and witchcraft.
Penduko is one of the entries for the Metro Manila Film Festival 2023. The film is directed by Jason Paul Laxamana.
Almost four years of waiting
Penduko is the new retelling of the comic character Pedro Penduko, created by Francisco Coching and published in Liwayway Magazine in 1954. Efren Reyes Sr. first gave life to the character in the movie Pedro Penduko in 1954.
Ramon Zamora became the next actor to take on the role, doing two films – Ang Mahiwagang Daigdig ni Pedro Penduko and Bagsik at Kamandag ni Pedro Penduko in the 70s.
In the 90s, singer-actor Janno Gibbs took on the role for the movies Ang Pagbabalik ni Pedro Penduko and Pedro Penduko, Episode II: The Return of the Comeback.
In 2006, actor Matt Evans gave life to the character on television. Then, Matteo Guidicelli was announced as the new actor to take on the role of Penduko in 2019. However, the pandemic happened and it took almost four years before it was finally filmed.
