Olympic Swimmer Ryan Murphy Receives Gender Reveal News After Placement!
After placing on the podium, Team USA’s swimmer Ryan Murphy discovers he’s going to be a girl-dad!
Who knew he was up for another surprise after his event? After swimmer Ryan Murphy secured a bronze medal for the 100m backstroke for Team USA, he spots his pregnant wife, Bridget Konttinen, and his family holding up a poster: “RYAN, IT’S A GIRL!” It’s quite the gender reveal and now the whole world can celebrate with Ryan that his first child is a baby girl!
A double win!
According to the swimmer, he only saw the poster after finishing the race. In an interview with ESPN, Ryan revealed that it was “the first time” he had heard about the baby’s gender. They had been expecting a boy and many in the family had been thinking the same thing. To hear that he was going to be a girl dad, Ryan shares that “everything is going to be dedicated to that little girl.”
“Up to this point, swimming has really been the most important thing in my life,” Murphy revealed. “Pretty much every major decision I make is with swimming in mind, and that’s going to change coming up. I’m really looking forward to what’s coming.”
Team USA and USA Swimming collaborated on an Instagram post to commemorate the moment, writing. “Step 1: Win an Olympic medal. Step 2: Find out you’re going to be a girl dad 🥹🎀”
Former 3-time Olympic swimmer and dad of four, Rowdy Gaines, joined in congratulating Ryan. “This is so much bigger than any medal! Congrats, Murph!”
A supportive family and an exciting change
As one of the most celebrated tournaments, the Olympics gathers people who have single-mindedly dedicated themselves to improving themselves physically to reach almost superhuman levels. Ryan Murphy’s bagging of the bronze medal makes it his seventh Olympic medal with four gold medals under his belt from the 2016 and 2020 Olympic games.
Will his daughter follow in his footsteps? Who knows? Water-based sports seem to be in the blood with Bridget Konttinen also being a competitive rower during her high school days. According to the California Golden Bears Athletics, she also has several medals and titles for the sport.
Congratulations to Ryan and Bridget!
